- Product counseling : Embed with Product and Engineering to advise on secure-by-design principles, roadmaps, and feature specifications from design through launch and evolution.
- Data governance & privacy engineering : Support platform/data strategy and data governance; partner with technical teams on privacy-by-design practices and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
- Security incidents & vulnerability management : Support incident response (including breach notification and regulatory reporting); advise on vulnerability disclosure programs, and testing protocols.
- IP, licensing & open source : Identify and assess IP and technology risks; counsel on open-source usage and license compliance; help coordinate and advance IP strategy, including trademarks.
- User-facing and product documentation : Draft and manage Terms of Service, EULAs, privacy policies, product disclosures, and other external documentation; help ensure consistency between product positions and negotiated terms.
- Cross-functional partnership : Support legal team to streamline product and contract workflows while enabling informed, risk-based decision-making with Product, Engineering, Security, Sales, Finance, Privacy, and Legal colleagues.
What You'll Bring
- Education & admission : JD, LLB, LLM, or other law degree from an accredited law school; admitted and in good standing to practice law in the relevant location.
- Experience : 5-10 years of progressive legal experience, including significant experience advising on technology transactions and product/technology and/or IP matters (in-house experience at a growing SaaS company preferred).
- Technical fluency : Ability to understand and communicate technical security and product concepts (e.g., cloud architecture, APIs, encryption) and translate them into actionable legal guidance and risk assessments.
- Regulatory expertise : Strong knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy laws and standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, NIST/ISO), and familiarity with emerging cyber/AI regimes (e.g., CRA, EU AI Act) and sector requirements (e.g., HIPAA, SEC cyber rules) as applicable.
