Med/Surg RN Job Details – Hickory, NC

• Location: Hickory, NC 28601 (North Carolina nursing jobs)
• Assignment Type: Travel RN / Locum Tenens
• Unit: Medical Surgical (Med/Surg – 4 North)
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1750 - $1800 per week
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 09/15/2025 – End: 12/15/2025)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call Requirement: None
• Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric
• Unit Size: 18 beds
• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Electronic Health Record (EHR): Cerner
• Scrub Color: Any

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or compact state (NC RN license)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience
• Proficiency with Cerner EHR systems
• IV therapy competency
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ASN or BSN)
• Ability to float to surgical, neuro, and intermediate care units as needed
• Strong teamwork, communication, and patient advocacy skills
• Preferred: Charge nurse experience

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on a busy Medical Surgical unit
• Manage a patient load of up to 6 patients per shift
• Administer medications, monitor IVs, and operate equipment (Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, PCA pumps)
• Document patient care and assessments using Cerner EHR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans
• Float to other units as required, providing Med/Surg level care
• Care for patients with common diagnoses: COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care, falls, weakness, sepsis, and infection
• Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude in a fast-paced clinical setting
