CNC Precision Machining Specialist
CNC Precision Machining Specialist
Location: Mocksville, North Carolina
Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday–Friday (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm); overtime and weekends as needed
A day in the life
You arrive for second shift, review work orders, and load the day’s programs. You’ll set up mills, lathes, grinders, machining centers, drill presses, and related equipment. With prints in hand, you verify dimensions, pick cutting tools and attachments, and dial in offsets. Throughout the run you monitor conditions, make adjustments at the control, measure parts with micrometers, bore/height/depth gages and calipers, and keep everything within tight tolerances—down to ±0.0002 in. When parts are complete, you route them to the next operation, update the system, and collaborate with teammates and engineers to solve problems and improve flow.
Core responsibilities (CNC/Machining)
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and job instructions to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
- Select and install cutting tools, attachments, and accessories for mills, lathes, grinders, machining centers, and drill machines.
- Retrieve, input, and edit CNC programs and machine control information; set up, operate, and monitor machines to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust controls/media as required.
- Use precision measurement tools and methods to validate parts against specifications; rework nonconforming parts.
- Partner with supervisors, engineers, and production personnel to troubleshoot machining challenges.
- Follow ISO procedures and safety rules, including PPE use and hoist inspections.
- Route completed parts per routing sequence and perform computer data entry to update part locations.
- Maintain accurate work order covers, daily production/status sheets, and quality records.
- Engage in regular peer and Team Lead communication to maintain productivity and resolve issues; attend monthly department meetings and quarterly town halls.
- Meet print specifications with meticulous attention to detail, achieving tolerances to ±0.0002 in.
- Uphold 5S standards of organization and housekeeping; contribute ideas for cell layout and process efficiency improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency with depth/bore/height gages, feeler gages, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, die grinders, drill presses, overhead lifting equipment, etc.
- Problem solving using structured methods (e.g., 5 Whys) as trained; ability to handle multi-variable problems.
- Stamina to stand/walk up to 8 hours per shift; lift 35 lbs solo and 70 lbs with assistance repeatedly; push/pull up to 35 lbs.
