Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant II is responsible for general accounting functions and supporting the finance team in daily finance operations. This role carries out financial procedures in accordance with MANNA’s approves processes, ensures compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and maintains accurate records. This position is a key support to the Controller, supporting audit preparation, grant reporting, and maintaining internal control, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate day-to-day transactions, including bank deposits, processing vendor accounts payable and similar transactions, ensuring proper general ledger coding.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries, such as bi-weekly payroll and contribution revenue, ensuring accuracy in coding and allocations.
  • Support the timely month-end close processes, including:
    • Reconciliation of key general ledger accounts
    • Financial variance analysis with explanations for material variances
    • Preparation of financial statements
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Lead audit preparation and manage external auditor relationships.
  • Improve accounting policies and protocols to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Support timely and accurate financial reporting for corporate and foundation grants.
  • Produce high-level financial reports for the board and directors.
  • Serve as primary Agency Partners contact for payments and invoices.
  • Manage contract and grant tracking/reporting to ensure compliance and transparency.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting and other financial planning processes as requested.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required. Master's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally with a nonprofit organization, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and enterprise accounting.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively and communicate well within a remote team.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the mission of MANNA Foodbank.
  • Sensitivity and passion related to issues of poverty and hunger relief.

Working Conditions: Work will be performed in a typical office environment with exposure to local travel in a personal vehicle

Physical Demands: The physical demands required are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

The physical demands of this position are considered medium work. While performing job duties the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities require the visual acuity to operate motor vehicles; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus close visual acuity to perform activities including but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading.

Functions also require the ability to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Travel: Routine travel may be required within the service area. Current driver’s license required; copy of current auto insurance; and clean MVR required.

Compensation and Benefits: The annual salary range is $61,626 - $65,050

Schedule: Flexible schedule required, including some evening and weekends as needed. Typical schedule is Mon. – Fri. 8a – 4p with evening and weekend hours as needed. In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency or order, MANNA Foodbank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called upon to perform regular or emergent duties.
