SHD Composite Materials Inc. was incorporated in August 2018 to service the expanding American and Canadian composite industries. The North American HQ is in Mooresville, North Carolina, and became a fully operational manufacturing facility in 2019.

SHD Composite Materials Inc. manufactures advanced composite prepreg. With a growing global presence, the company services the American prepreg market with high-quality prepreg, fast turnaround times, and world-class technical support.The company’s core strength is the ability to supply high- and low-volume products, with a wide range of tooling and component products throughout America and around the world.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and continually improving the organization’s Quality Management System while ensuring products, processes, and materials meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. This role works closely with Production, Engineering, Inspection, Supply Chain, and Management teams to drive compliance, resolve quality issues, support process improvement, and promote a culture of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Either a proven Quality Engineer or a person with strong prior experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing quality, internal auditing, non-conformance management, corrective action, and regulated manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate is quality-focused, analytical, detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to support AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements while working effectively with production teams, suppliers, customers, and leadership.

Quality Management System / Compliance

• Work in accordance with company Quality, Health, and Safety procedures at all times.

• Support the Quality Manager in maintaining the Quality Management System in compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements.

• Conduct internal audits of processes, procedures, and records to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities.

• Participate in customer order, contract, and specification reviews to ensure quality requirements are clearly understood and achievable.

• Participate in cross-functional Management of Change activities to ensure quality requirements are assessed and controlled.

• Support aerospace, customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements through accurate documentation, process control, and quality system discipline.

Non-Conformance / Corrective Action

• Promptly investigate, address, and document customer complaints, concerns, and quality issues.

• Identify and raise internal non-conformance reports, lead root cause investigations, and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

• Validate the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions and follow up to ensure sustained improvement.

• Manage containment activities and support the control, disposition, and documentation of non-conforming products and raw materials.

• Use structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, 8D, and similar tools to resolve quality concerns.

Quality Data / Process Improvement

• Collect, analyze, and summarize quality data to prepare and present KPI reports and performance updates.

• Maintain and develop product limits and process controls using appropriate statistical methods.

• Analyze quality data, identify trends, monitor KPIs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

• Support and lead process improvement initiatives that improve product quality, reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

• Implement and maintain methods to inspect, test, and evaluate manufacturing processes, products, and production equipment.

Inspection / Calibration / Supplier Quality

• Conduct final inspection and certification of finished goods prior to dispatch.

• Support the maintenance of calibrated tools, equipment, and calibration records.

• Evaluate raw materials and supplier-provided products to confirm compliance with required quality standards.

• Support supplier quality activities, supplier audits, corrective actions, and quality documentation as required.

• Collaborate with internal teams to improve product and service quality and enhance customer satisfaction.

Training / Cross-Functional Support

• Assist with quality-related training for employees, including support for new inspectors during training.

• Work effectively with Production, Engineering, Inspection, Supply Chain, Management, suppliers, and customers to resolve quality issues and improve process performance.

• Undertake and perform other reasonable quality, compliance, inspection, documentation, or process-improvement duties as requested by the company.

Role Boundaries

• This position supports quality engineering, Quality Management System compliance, non-conformance management, corrective action, process improvement, inspection support, and quality data reporting.

• This position does not have direct reports.

• Questions requiring final quality management authority, customer commitments, supplier approval decisions, or major Quality Management System decisions should be routed through the Quality Manager or appropriate internal stakeholder.

Skills and Ability

• Strong knowledge of quality assurance methods, tools, manufacturing processes, and relevant quality management standards.

• Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, internal auditing, non-conformance management, and corrective action processes.

• Ability to analyze quality data, identify trends, conduct root cause analysis, and develop effective preventive action plans.

• High attention to detail with a strong commitment to product conformity, process control, and customer requirements.

• Good mathematical skills and the ability to apply statistical methods to monitor and improve process performance.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and relevant quality or manufacturing software systems.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document findings, actions, and process requirements.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with limited supervision while managing priorities effectively.

• Sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills with the ability to operate effectively under pressure.

• Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining quality, safety, delivery, and cost objectives.

Experience Requirements

• Previous experience in a quality engineering, quality assurance, or manufacturing quality role is required.

• Experience working within a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace, defense, automotive, or other precision manufacturing sectors.

• Practical experience supporting or maintaining Quality Management Systems, including AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliance activities.

• Experience conducting or supporting internal audits, supplier audits, corrective actions, and non-conformance investigations.

• Hands-on experience with root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, 8D, or similar structured problem-solving methods.

• Experience using inspection methods, measuring equipment, calibration systems, and quality documentation to verify product conformity.

• Experience analyzing quality data, monitoring KPIs, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

• Experience working directly with cross-functional teams, suppliers, or customers to resolve quality issues and improve process performance.

Work Environment / Essential Physical Demands

• Ability to perform physical work for extended periods of time when required.

• Must be able to work weekends and overtime if required.

• Must be able to use hands and fingers for fine manipulation and keyboarding as needed.

• Ability to frequently bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and reach.

• Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours per day.

• Ability to frequently push and pull items up to 105 lbs using lifting equipment.

• Ability to safely, effectively, and reliably receive and give urgent and other essential communications in a factory environment.

• Ability to detect abnormalities in the process and receive safety signals using visual, tactile, or auditory senses.

• Must have good vision and auditory senses.

• Must be able to follow all safety and company policies and procedures.

• Must be able to wear all required PPE.

• Must be able to work in a typical manufacturing environment on concrete floors.

• Must be able to work short time periods in cold temperatures.

• Must be able to work long hours at a computer as needed.
