Position summary:
The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance of battery recycling equipment, other operational equipment, and facility. This role ensures that all machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support continuous production. This role will also perform standard maintenance upkeep and repairs. The Specialist works closely with operation management and operations teams to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize equipment performance, minimizing downtime and maintaining compliance with safety standards. The specialist will also work closely with any and all safety representatives and officers to ensure safe working equipment, facility and environment.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
- Equipment/Facility Maintenance:
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on battery recycling equipment such as shredder and sorting equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and company standards.
Consult with the vendors to obtain the necessary information for the maintenance activity.
Assess the spare parts, tools and consumables required for maintenance work and develop a budget.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and implement effective solutions promptly.
Maintain detailed maintenance logs, records of repairs, and parts inventory.
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on items associated with the facility like doors, dock doors, HVAC filters, lighting, fans, and any other supporting items.
- Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and ensure maintenance activities comply with OSHA and company safety standards.
Identify potential safety hazards related to equipment and recommend corrective actions.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all maintenance tasks.
- Operational Support:
Collaborate with operations teams to schedule maintenance activities minimizing production disruption.
Assist in equipment installation, upgrades, and modifications as required.
Train operators on basic equipment troubleshooting and preventive care.
- Continuous Improvement:
Recommend and implement improvements to equipment reliability and maintenance processes.
Participating in root cause analysis of equipment failures and develop corrective action plans.
- Other Duties:
Support other maintenance activities as assigned by the Plant Manager or Operation Manager.
- EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial equipment maintenance, preferably with shredders, sorting, or similar heavy machinery.
Proficient computer skill utilizing MS Office suite and other software systems need for preventive maintenance.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS
High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic math skills to perform measurements, calibrations, and parts inventory management.
- REASONING ABILITY
Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.
Ability to apply technical knowledge to follow detailed instructions and diagrams.
- EQUIPMENT SKILLS
Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety devices related to industrial machinery maintenance.

- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
Frequently lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds or more.
Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions including noise, dust, and temperature extremes.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors on the operations floor near moving mechanical parts and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
PPE such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats, and respirators must be worn as required.
Noise levels may be moderate to high near operating equipment.
- NOTE: This position could be a problem for someone with an acute allergy condition.
