Position Summary

Description of Responsibilities and Duties

The faculty member will teach classes in beginning, intermediate, and advanced directing, serve as a mentor and advisor for directing students, and teach intermediate acting classes. Direct workshop/mainstage productions, and provide dramaturgical input into both productions and season planning.

Required Qualifications

The UNCSA School of Drama recognizes that not all teaching is done in a traditional classroom setting and we are able to hire artists based on their work experience; therefore, we encourage all that are interested to apply.

Faculty teaching undergraduate level courses must possess: Earned doctorate/master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline or earned master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline OR Equivalent professional/experiential qualifications OR Equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Extensive professional directing experience required. Minimum ten years of higher education teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in new or original work required, and experience in play development as well as reinterpretations of classical texts.
  • Knowledge of the current trends and transformations in the professional landscape and industries.
  • Ability to direct workshop and mainstage productions; previous professional or college directing experience
  • Dramaturgical input into both productions and season planning.
  • Excellent communicator and advocate for student wellness

Tenure Information

UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.
