Sr Data Scientist

Job Title: Senior Data Scientist

Location: Onsite Raleigh, North Carolina

Employment Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy LLM-based applications tailored for internal legal services.
• Build data pipelines for preprocessing, annotating, and managing legal datasets .
• Work directly with legal domain experts to capture requirements and ensure ML models align with business goals.
• Conduct experiments, benchmarking, and performance evaluations for AI models and GenAI outputs.
• Collaborate with developers, data scientists, and data engineers to integrate ML into scalable applications.
• Participate in code reviews , follow development best practices, and write production-grade code beyond Jupyter Notebooks.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of data assets, training datasets , and evaluation tools.

Required Skills & Experience:

Machine Learning & AI:

• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms : embeddings, clustering, sequence classification, dimensionality reduction.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks : PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers.
• Solid background in Natural Language Processing (NLP) using libraries like spaCy, word2vec, Flair, BERT, etc.
• Hands-on with LLMs , prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and benchmarking using tools such as LangChain , LlamaIndex , etc.

Programming & Systems:

• Strong proficiency in Python .
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP .
• Familiar with data modeling , relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), NoSQL, and vector databases (e.g., ChromaDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch).

Preferred Experience (Nice-to-Have):

• Knowledge of Scala, Apache Spark, Ray , or other distributed computing frameworks .
• Understanding of MLOps/AI Ops pipelines and machine learning deployment practices .

Experience with API development , containerization , and deployment workflows
