Climate Resilience Technical Specialist (Great Lakes Region)
- Technical Assistance & Expertise:
- Provide subject-matter expertise in areas such as climate adaptation and resilience planning, policy development, and nature-based solutions.
- Offer guidance on accessing and utilizing NOAA climate data, tools, and analyses.
- Support economic and ecosystem service assessments relevant to climate resilience projects.
- Advise on meaningful and equitable engagement with historically underserved and underrepresented communities, including tribal and indigenous communities.
- Collaborative Support & Capacity Building:
- Assess the performance needs of collaboratives, identifying necessary training, data, tools, and technical expertise.
- Facilitate the convening of regional partners for planning, designing, and implementing adaptation efforts.
- Develop and deliver climate resilience and adaptation training sessions.
- Coordinate with NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) regional staff and a network of fellows to provide targeted support.
- Support and participate in national and regional peer-to-peer events and workshops, fostering knowledge transfer and collaboration.
- Communication & Outreach:
- Develop outreach and educational materials to promote the work of the collaboratives.
- Communicate NOAA resources effectively to regional partners and stakeholders.
- Assist in documenting and communicating the accomplishments of the CRRC projects..
- Project Management & Support:
- Serve on project advisory or technical teams to ensure successful implementation of climate resilience initiatives.
- Provide management assistance for cooperative agreements and grants associated with the CRRC.
- Support the development of geospatial data visualizations, model outputs, and analytical products to aid collaborative decision-making.
- Education:
- Advanced degree in environmental science, climate policy, coastal management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in climate resilience, adaptation planning, or related areas..
- Experience:
- Proven track record of working with Great Lakes coastal communities, particularly those that are marginalized or underserved.
- Strong knowledge of NOAA and/or other Federal climate data, tools, and resources.
- Experience in facilitating workshops, trainings, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing events.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in project management, particularly in the context of large, multi-year grants or cooperative agreements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with non-government institutions and local communities on climate issues are a plus.
- Experience working with tribal and indigenous communities.
- Familiarity with nature-based solutions and their application in coastal resilience projects.
- Experience in economic and ecosystem service analysis related to climate adaptation..
