Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A K-12 school in Newport, NC is seeking qualified Teachers for the Visually Impaired to support students with visual impairments across all grade levels. This contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing specialized instruction tailored to their unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to visually impaired students using appropriate teaching methods and assistive technology
- Assess student progress and adapt educational plans to meet evolving needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure inclusive learning environments
- Provide orientation and mobility training as needed
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to comply with state and federal guidelines
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification
- Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology and strategies for supporting visually impaired learners
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and maintain compliance with educational standards
