American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Neurosurgery ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Charlotte, NC, requiring Epic experience and at least 2 years of adult ICU experience.

- 29-bed Neurosurgery ICU within a 874-licensed-bed, Level 1 Trauma and Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital in Charlotte, NC
- Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injuries, seizures/status epilepticus, spinal cord injuries, EVD/ICP monitoring, post-op craniotomies, IR patients, and TNK administration; some off-service trauma and medical ICU patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with occasional 1:3 when patients have downgrade orders
- CNA support is not consistently available on the unit; nurses perform their own phlebotomy draws
- EMR: Epic (required)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Arctic Sun (Targeted Temperature Management), Vigilance Monitor, CRRT, and ICP/EVD drain monitoring
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700 (floor shift times 1845–0715), 36 hours per week
- Schedule cycles every 6 weeks with an every-other-weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating to other adult critical care units as needed (MICU, STICU, Dixon Heart, CTICU), with a max 1:3 ratio if floated to PCU
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of adult ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in EVD and ICP monitoring, ventilator management, vasoactive drip management, tracheostomy care, central line maintenance, and post-procedure TNK and IR patient monitoring required
- CRRT experience preferred but not required; travelers competent in CRRT may be assigned these patients
- Must have completed at least one prior 13-week travel assignment (first-time travelers not accepted)
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include managing complex neurocritical care patients including post-op craniotomies direct from the OR, IR patients, and TNK administration (approximately 50% performed on the unit rather than in the ED)
- Support team includes a supervisor, stroke response nurse, clinical educator, free-floating charge nurse, 24/7 RT, 24/7 intensivist or in-house NP/PA as part of the Neurocritical Care Team, PT/OT/ST seven days a week, and case management/social work; pharmacy support is shared after 2300
- Orientation includes hospital-wide NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation, adjusted based on skillset and comfort level
- A clinical interview with the unit manager is required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- RTO requests require manager approval
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Parking is complimentary
- Former employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated from a permanent position for at least 1 year before being eligible
