Gastroenterologist (Board Certified) (Fayetteville)
Clinical Responsibilities :
- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations for symptoms related to the digestive system, including taking medical history, physical examinations, and ordering appropriate diagnostic tests.
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of GI conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, colon cancer, liver disease, pancreatitis, and biliary tract disorders.
- Perform endoscopic procedures including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies. Experience with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is beneficial but not required.
- Interpret and analyze results from endoscopic procedures, imaging studies (e.g., barium studies, CT scans, MRIs), and laboratory tests to formulate accurate diagnoses.
- Develop and implement treatment plans including medication management, dietary modifications, lifestyle changes, and referrals to other specialists when necessary.
- Refer patients to other medical professionals and specialists if further diagnostic testing or treatment is warranted.
- Incorporate professional standards and practice goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
Hospital Requirements :
- Must obtain and maintain hospital privileges.
- Must participate in the required call rotational schedule with our call group.
- Work in conjunction with midlevel providers' assistance.
Procedural Skills :
- Perform therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as polypectomy, dilation, stent placement, and hemostasis for bleeding lesions.
- Conduct liver biopsies to diagnose liver diseases.
- Possess expertise in advanced endoscopic techniques depending on practice focus and training.
Patient Education and Communication :
- Provide clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and potential risks and benefits to patients.
- Counsel patients on preventive measures for GI diseases, including dietary changes and screening guidelines.
- Effectively communicate with patients and their families regarding health status and treatment plans.
Collaboration and Leadership :
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals including surgeons, primary care physicians, radiologists, and nurses to manage complex cases.
- Participate in clinical research studies related to gastroenterology.
- Provide mentorship and supervision to trainees and healthcare providers.
Requirements / Qualifications :
- Doctorate degree and completion of medical school. Board certification in GI.
- Full completion of residency and fellowship programs.
- Medical license in North Carolina.
- Obtain and maintain DEA registration and prescribe according to NC guidelines, including narcotic training.
- Maintain ACLS / BLS certification and required CME credits.
- Obtain and uphold hospital privileges and participate in call rotations.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide patient care and interact appropriately.
- Establish and maintain professional, positive relationships with staff and patients.
- Work effectively in a complex environment, handling multiple priorities and using specialized equipment.
- Exhibit good clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Possess physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients, with excellent mobility and manual dexterity.
