Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Facilities Coordinator
General Definition of Work
The ADA facilities coordinator, under general supervision, performs moderately complex work with minimal decision-making discretion ensuring the district compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Position investigates discrimination complaints, coordinates accommodations for students and staff, and advises the district on policies and practices to guarantee equal opportunity in all programs, services, and facilities. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the facilities use and planning director.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Coordinate and monitor district-wide compliance with Title II of the ADA
- Serve as the district's primary contact and liaison regarding ADA compliance questions, concerns and initiatives
- Conduct site visits, as requested, to evaluate compliance related to accessibility and program access
- Coordinate, conduct, and implement district-wide evaluation of programs, services, and activities to ensure ADA compliance and accessibility for all students, staff, and visitors
- Receive, investigate, and evaluate requests for accommodation and modification to provide access to the physical facilities of schools and campuses, their playgrounds, athletic fields and stadiums, and administrative facilities
- Coordinate requests between the Exceptional Children (EC) Department and Building Services Department regarding requests for facility modifications to accommodate
- Collaborate to promote and implement accommodations for captioning of Board meetings and purchase of captioned media for classroom use
- Maintain accurate records of complaints and requests as well as records of resolution
- Determine system-wide ADA training needs; develop plans and coordinate training
- Develop and deliver periodic staff training and awareness campaigns to ensure district-wide understanding of ADA requirements
- Convene and facilitate meetings with school personnel for the purpose of providing technical guidance and assistance; serve as advisor to principals and other administrators regarding compliance issues
- Update school performance areas and disability rights advocates, as requested, on the district's compliance process and initiatives
- Prepare the district's notice of intent to comply with the ADA and update it annually
- Assist in recommending new policies and supporting regulation and procedures relating to equal access and protection of the civil rights of people with disabilities
- Act as a consultant in resolving complaints of noncompliance with established policies of equal access
- Work with the Board's attorney and external regulatory agencies, such as the Office for Civil Rights, to resolve issues related to compliance with ADA
- Respond to requests for ADA information from school personnel, the public, and state and community agencies
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of the American with Disabilities Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines
- Knowledge and understanding of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504; the individuals with Disabilities Education Act
- Knowledge of federal, state and local educational program laws, regulations and grant requirements
- Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards
- Skilled in communication, both verbal and written
- Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to analyze issues, develop solutions, assess impacts, and implement recommendations
- Ability to reason, make sound judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work independently and effectively without direct supervision
- Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing environment
- Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships, work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public

- Ability to interpret and apply a variety of laws and school system policies in complex and sensitive situations
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, human resources, social science, law or related field required
- Minium of two (2) years of related experience, such as experience related to disability rights, civil rights, or compliance programs, required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
