- Education : A bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is typically preferred. Some employers may accept a high school diploma if combined with extensive industry experience.
- Work Experience : Most recruiters look for 3 to 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in transportation, operations, or logistics.
- Regulatory Knowledge : Proficiency in DOT (Department of Transportation) Rules and Regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is often essential.
- Technical Skills :
- Fleet Tools : Familiarity with route optimization software, GPS tracking, and Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
General Software : Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data analysis and performance tracking.
- Driver's License : A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are standard. Some roles require a Class A CDL .
- Soft Skills :
- Leadership : Ability to hire, train, and motivate a team of drivers and staff.
- Problem-Solving : Capacity to manage logistics disruptions, such as equipment failure or weather delays, under pressure.
Communication : Strong verbal and written skills to collaborate with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
