Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A K-12 school in Newport, NC is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter for a contract position through the school year. This role requires a qualified professional fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) to support students' communication needs and facilitate effective learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken communication into sign language for students and staff, ensuring accurate and clear delivery.
• Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their classmates, teachers, and school personnel.
• Attend meetings, classes, and school events as needed to provide interpreting services.
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote inclusive educational practices.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting assignments.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in K-12 educational settings.
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and comprehensive understanding of deaf culture.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic school environment.
• Relevant certification or credentials in sign language interpretation highly desired.
