General Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Careers Profession Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at the middle school level. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing students for future careers in the healthcare industry. Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum aligned with CTE Model Curriculum Standards and the local healthcare industry's job responsibilities.
Teach students practical skills and techniques used in healthcare, such as taking blood pressure and other vital signs
Collaborate with local healthcare businesses and industry professionals to create real-world learning experiences for students
Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance and provide internship opportunities
Instruct students in appropriate job-seeking and retention skills specific to the healthcare field. Establish and maintain a safe learning environment that promotes student growth and skill mastery
Guide students in making career-related decisions within the healthcare industry
Maintain accurate records of student progress and skill attainment
Participate in professional development activities to stay current with healthcare industry trends and teaching methodologies.
Minimum Required Qualifications
An associate's or bachelor's degree is required. Preferred degree in Nursing. Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina teaching license with a Career and Technical Education
Endorsement- Preferred endorsement in Health Science Registered or Licensed Nurse (720, 721, or 722). Two years of experience as a nurse. Preferred prior classroom teaching experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Understands and administers the curriculum guides of the District based on state standards
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials based on the state curriculum guides, standards, and expectations; includes emergency plans in the case of absence and/or illness
- Establishes and communicates well-defined objectives for each lesson, including relevant projects and activities
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that reflect research-based instructional strategies, including a variety of instructional strategies such as inquiries, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc., and addresses the individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the students
- Communicates and plans with other members of the staff in the delivery of meaningful instruction for shared students who participate in other programs such as special education programs, ML, etc.
- Attends staff meetings and district in-service programs; serves on curriculum and other school committees as requested and able
- Is responsible for discharging instructional and non-instructional school-related activities in a thorough and timely manner
- Supervises, evaluates, and provides work assignments to assigned instructional assistants and/or student teachers; works collaboratively with teachers throughout the District.
- Acts as a supportive and contributing member of the professional staff by participating in group decision-making, and contributes to the development of a positive, cooperative educational environment
- Participates in professional development activities to enhance professional skills and maintain North Carolina certification
- Evaluates, provides, and maintains accurate reports and records of individual student progress on a regular basis; this includes accurate attendance records, grade reports, and special program requirements
- Identifies and refers unusual student behavior to the appropriate specialists
- Report any student injury or illness, or injury to self on school grounds or at school events to the site nurse and principal
- Enforces and follows the school and district-approved discipline plan
- Is responsible for the supervision of students at all times on school grounds or at school events
- Advises administration in accordance with established policies and completes all required forms accurately and in a timely manner.
- Accounts and maintains inventory for classroom, school, and district property as required
- Advises CTE Director and school administration of needed repairs, replacements, and/or unsafe conditions as soon as they occur
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student educational needs and progress
- Interprets and communicates school policies and programs to students and parents
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of children
- Ability to review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Knowledge of data usage, including collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting
- Ability to communicate effectively using all forms of communication; Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies
- Ability to handle confrontation and conflict
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk, and drive a car. Must be able to lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to see, talk, and hear.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and write complex text and data.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide, and multiply, and to understand and interpret complex statistical analysis.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using computers and other technology.
Manual Dexterity: Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.
