Safety Coordinator

Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation and maintenance of workplace safety programs within a Bekaert Deslee. This role assists in ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards while helping to reduce workplace injuries and promote a strong safety culture on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting routine safety inspections of production areas, safety walks
• Help identify hazards related to machinery guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and powered industrial trucks
• Support OSHA compliance efforts and maintain safety documentation (OSHA logs, training records, incident reports)
• Assist in investigating workplace incidents and near-misses
• Monitor use of PPE (hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, respiratory protection where applicable)
• Help coordinate safety training for employees (machine safety, hazard communication, forklift safety, emergency procedures)
• Participate in safety meetings with supervisors and managers
• Promote safe work practices across all shifts

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of OSHA regulations
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
• Problem Solving Skills
• Ability to work on the production floor and communicate effectively with operators and supervisors
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Certification
• Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Technology, or related field

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to walk production floors for extended periods
• Exposure to noise, textile fibers/dust, heat, and moving machinery

BekaertDeslee USA employs about 290 persons and manufactures and sells mattress ticking to the abovementioned markets from its 270,000 sq. ft. plant and 171,000 sq. ft. warehouse. The plant consists of two main buildings with a preparation department for the production of weaving beams, a weave room with 40 jacquard looms, a knitting department with 45 circular knitting machines, a finishing department with 2 Tenter frames and a hot-melt machine, and other necessary equipment and a warehouse.
