Job Title: Injection Molding and 3D Printing Technician
Location: Durham, NC (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $26.00/hour
Schedule: Full-time

Shift Details:

  • Training Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Post-Training Schedule: Shift will transition to a later schedule (11:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM, or 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM)

Position Overview

The Injection Molding and 3D Printing Technician supports advanced prototyping and product development efforts within a fast-paced engineering lab environment. This role is a hybrid position working across injection molding and 3D printing operations, contributing to the development of next-generation products and enhancements to existing product lines.

The technician is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment, producing high-quality prototype components, troubleshooting processes, and supporting engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of parts. This is a hands-on role suited for individuals who enjoy working with machinery, tools, and detailed processes in a dynamic setting.

Key Responsibilities

Injection Molding

  • Operate injection molding machines, including start-up and shutdown
  • Run pre-established molding programs and make minor process adjustments as needed
  • Monitor part quality, identify defects, and sort components accordingly
  • Perform trimming and post-processing (sanding, deburring, assembly, etc.)
  • Package, label, and prepare molded parts for shipment
  • Handle raw materials, including drying, storage, and transport within the lab
  • Operate material handling equipment such as dryers and moisture analyzers
  • Perform mold changeovers using gantry cranes
  • Collaborate with tooling and machining teams on mold setup and maintenance

3D Printing / Additive Manufacturing

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot 3D printing equipment
  • Reset and restart print jobs as needed to maintain production flow
  • Perform post-processing tasks such as cleaning, sanding, polishing, and painting
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality of printed components
  • Maintain and operate cleaning and solvent reclamation systems
  • Support engineers with additive manufacturing workflows
  • Package and ship completed printed parts

General Duties

  • Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, etc.) to verify part accuracy
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on equipment
  • Review and interpret CAD models using software such as SolidWorks
  • Follow standard operating procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Track and replenish lab supplies as needed
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience with injection molding, plastics, or machine operation preferred
  • Exposure to 3D printing technologies (SLA, DLP, PolyJet, FFF, etc.) is a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude with understanding of fitment, pressure, and material behavior preferred
  • Experience in a lab or machine shop environment is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with CAD software for viewing models preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
