Dean of Academic and Career Development

Position Summary:
The Dean of Academic and Career Development plays a key role in supporting the academic, social, and postsecondary success of high school students. This position leads academic advising, course planning, and college and career readiness initiatives while collaborating closely with students, families, teachers, and the high school leadership team. The Dean also contributes to a positive school culture through student support, oversight of key programs, and participation in major school events.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Advising, College & Career Readiness:

• Oversee student scheduling in Infinite Campus to ensure alignment with graduation requirements and monitor academic progress through transcript and registration review.
• Provide annual college and postsecondary planning meetings for all students and ongoing guidance on course selection, college admissions, and scholarship applications.
• Facilitate AP/Honors waiver and add/drop processes, and consult with administration on academic policies and the master schedule.
• Serve as the Naviance administrator and coordinate college and career programming, including college visits, college/job fairs, and the junior college essay workshop.
• Oversee the dual enrollment program, recommendation process, and quarterly Honor Roll.
• Participate in new student and rising 9th-grade orientations, as well as new parent orientations.
• Support key school events such as NHS Induction, Senior Awards Night, Signing Ceremonies, and Graduation.

Student Support & School Culture:

• Provide individualized academic guidance and connect students with appropriate interventions and supports.
• Participate in weekly data meetings to review student progress and recommend academic interventions.
• Supervise the Academic Coach and facilitate peer tutoring programs.
• Oversee the Student Ambassador Program and student clubs and organizations.
• Assist with supervision of students during arrival, Cardinal Time, lunch, and transitions.
• Collaborate with students, teachers, and the school social worker to support students with extended or chronic absences, including planning for make-up work.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Required: Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
• Required: Current NC School Counselor or School Administration license (or similar).
• Experience in academic advising, college counseling, and/or career development.
• Strong knowledge of high school curriculum, graduation requirements, and college admissions.
• Proficiency with student data systems (e.g., Infinite Campus, Schoology, Naviance).
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
