PlayStore Inventory Specialist & Lead

Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles’ serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. The Opportunity

At Marbles' PlayStore imagination, discovery and learning come to life through our mix of innovative, educational and whimsical children's merchandise. The store's toys and games are specially selected to complement the play in our exhibits, meet a child’s developmental needs and give them the opportunity to take home the power of play.

Marbles is searching for a PlayStore Inventory Specialist and Lead who will support the PlayStore manager and provide leadership to the store, receive and process all PlayStore merchandise, and deliver a top-notch guest experience consistent with the mission, goals, strategy, and programming of Marbles Kids Museum.

Job Responsibilities

PlayStore Lead
  • Complete opening and closing duties.
  • Provide an exceptional guest experience that is aligned with Marbles customer service procedures
  • Effectively communicate scheduling, inventory, and other operational issues with your manager.
  • Operate the store register and process all store transactions accurately.
  • Stock retail products.
  • Maintain the visual appeal of the store through regularly tidying, returning misplaced merchandise, and general upkeep of the store.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all work areas and completes special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with all unboxing and tagging projects as assigned by the PlayStore manager.
  • Provide support and training for PlayStore hosts while overseeing operations.
  • Communicate upcoming store, museum, and theater events and share updates with the PlayStore team.
  • Maintain working knowledge of store products.
  • Communicate PlayStore facility cleaning and presentation needs to the porter team.
  • In the event of an emergency, confidently execute Marbles Emergency Action Plan.

Inventory Specialist

  • Open all packages and count merchandise. Compare counted merchandise to its packing slip and receive appropriate inventory into Stocky.
  • Coordinate any issues with merchandise or packing slips with the Retail Director and Accounts Payable team.
  • Inspect all merchandise for shipping damages and communicate any damages with the supervisor.
  • Work a flexible schedule between PlayStore duties and Inventory duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist with delivering merchandise, including drink/food transfers, to its appropriate locations.
  • Take leadership of inventory management, which may include organizing back stock areas, planning space for new merchandise, assist restocking the PlayStore, and assisting with biannual inventory audits.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the manager.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Shift Supervision and training for all PlayStore hosts.

Experience and Skill Requirements

  • One year of customer service experience, particularly with families and young children.
  • At least six months of retail experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team preferred.
  • Experience with point-of-sale and inventory software.
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • High attention to detail or 6 months of inventory management experience.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish goals, set priorities, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.


Physical Demands

  • Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally using a ladder and going up and down stairs.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


Work Environment

  • Sunday-Thursday schedule with flexibility, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.  
  • Occasional exposure to noisy and crowded atmosphere.
  • May be needed to walk between two buildings with some outdoor exposure.
