Executive Pastor
The Executive Pastor (XP) serves as the primary partner to the Senior Pastor (SP) in
leading the mission, vision, strategy, and operations of First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa.
The XP ensures that staff, systems, and ministries are aligned to fulfill our mission:
“Leading all generations to seek the good of my neighbor* and all God has next.”
This role requires a strong grasp of our core values and strategic framework (Gather +
Worship, Connect + Belong, Serve + Influence, Live + Lead) and the ability to mobilize
people and ministries toward unified execution. The XP provides pastoral leadership to
the congregation, collaborates with key teams, and oversees organizational health.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Planning(70%)
The XP will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the church
by:
• Partnering with the SP to clarify and execute the mission and vision, while
aligning staffing, resources, and ministries with strategic direction.
• Leading the Operations Team…including Human Resources, Accounting, and
Facilities…to ensure smooth, effective, and mission-aligned operations.
• Ensuring ministries and support functions run smoothly and monitoring
operational effectiveness in order to recommend improvements.
• Building and maintaining systems that support ministry excellence and
operational efficiency, ensuring policies and practices are ethical, compliant, and
sustainable.
• Anticipating resource, facility, and staffing needs and preparing for future growth
for “all God has next.”
Staff Oversight & Development(30%)
The XP will assist the SP in leading, evaluating, and developing the staff by:
• Supervising and coaching pastors/directors in day-to-day ministry leadership.
• Leading staff training, evaluations, and leadership growth initiatives that
strengthen a culture of collaboration and accountability.
• Overseeing hiring, dismissal, salary planning, and organizational structure
processes, following direction and guidance from the SP, Personnel Team, and
Stewardship Team.

Spiritual & Personal
• A growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear sense of calling to

• Committed to Scripture as the foundation for truth, wisdom, and leadership.

• Strives to glorify God in all things through excellence, accountability, and
prayerful discernment.
Professional & Leadership
• Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership or operational management experience,
with preference given to candidates who have 8–10 years of experience in a multistaff church, nonprofit, or corporate organization of comparable scope.
• Proven experience leading in a multi-staff church, nonprofit, or corporate
organization of comparable scope and complexity.
• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and
operational management…especially in areas such as HR, finance, and facilities
• Strong administrative, analytical, and systems-thinking skills with an ability to
translate vision into structure and action.
• Experienced in leading teams, developing people, and fostering a healthy,
collaborative culture.
• Adept at navigating change with clarity, grace, and a steady focus on mission.
