Overview:
As a Phlebotomist, you will be the vital link between patients and accurate laboratory testing, performing blood draws with professionalism and care in a variety of clinical settings. You’ll ensure every patient feels comfortable and confident during their visit while upholding the highest standards of safety and precision. Responsibilities:
Draw high-quality blood samples from patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, following established protocols.
Prepare and label specimens accurately, verifying patient demographic information and ensuring each sample’s integrity.
Explain procedures clearly to patients, calming anxieties, and fostering a trusting environment.
Maintain proper documentation and records of collection activities in compliance with confidentiality and regulatory standards.
Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe specimen handling practices.
Assist with specimen processing and transportation to laboratories, adhering to turnaround times.
Support continuous process improvement initiatives and uphold a professional, welcoming environment at all times.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily productivity goals and adapt to staffing needs, including working at various locations with flexible hours.
Required Skills:
Proven proficiency in venipuncture, capillary, and pediatric phlebotomy, with a focus on patient comfort and specimen integrity.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly and empathetically.
Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in specimen labeling and documentation.
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team in a high-volume environment.
Knowledge of infection control, OSHA safety standards, and confidentiality policies.
Technical proficiency with data entry and relevant laboratory information systems (LIS).
Certification in phlebotomy preferred but not mandatory, depending on state requirements.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Nice to Have Skills:
Medical Assistant or Paramedic training backgrounds.
Experience in mobile or in-office phlebotomy.
Multilingual abilities to assist diverse patient populations.
Familiarity with pediatric and geriatric patient handling techniques.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
1-3 years of professional phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and capillary collections, in a clinical or patient service center environment.
Customer service experience in retail or healthcare settings highly desirable.
Experience with keyboard and data entry systems.
Other Requirements:
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and overtime as needed.
Ability to travel between multiple clinical locations with minimal notice.
Physical ability to perform blood draws, stand for extended periods, and lift supplies or specimens.
Certification in phlebotomy is preferred and required in certain states (CA, NV, WA).
Maintain current CPR certification and adhere to all safety policies.
