POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Regional Education Director and in alignment with the mission of the YMCA of Southeastern NC, the Afterschool Site Coordinator is a dedicated leader responsible for the daily operations of the afterschool program at an assigned school site. Serving as the primary point of contact for school administrators, faculty, parents, and guardians, the Coordinator plays a vital role in building strong partnerships and fostering a safe, engaging, and values-driven environment. This position requires proven leadership, strong communication skills, and a passion for youth development. The Coordinator will oversee program delivery, implement curriculum, support staff, and ensure a high-quality experience for children and families—guided by the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  6. Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication.

  7. Maintains program site and equipment.
  8. Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports; maintains CACFP records.
  9. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  10. Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
  11. Trains new staff on current YMCA policies and procedures.
  12. Supervises afterschool counselors; modify the schedule as necessary to maintain appropriate staff to student ratios and remain within budget.
  13. Develop relationships with school and community stakeholders to further deepen the YMCA and school relationship.
    1. Site Coordinators with Afterschool sites serving 60 or more students may be assigned to help that school with lunch monitoring duties, playground monitoring duties, and more.
  14. Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Youth Services District Director.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years or more of college preferred working towards a degree in education or related field.
  2. At least 21 years of age and / or training significant for the YMCA program.
  3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  4. 2 years' experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age- appropriate/developmentally appropriate.
