About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:
The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit delivers a comprehensive portfolio of energy distribution systems and solutions across all markets and sales channels. We support today’s power distribution needs while investing in our Future Grids portfolio and digital applications to enable the power distribution grid of tomorrow.
The EA Business Unit’s U.S. headquarters in Wendell, North Carolina, specializes in medium‑voltage power distribution equipment, including primary and secondary switchgear, controllers, contactors, circuit breakers, as well as OEM and replacement/retrofit solutions and services. The facility also assembles low‑voltage motor control centers and low‑voltage switchboards. In addition, the factory has in‑house fabrication capabilities, including metal punching and bending, along with automated wire‑harness manufacturing processes.
We are looking for a Training and Workforce Development Manager. This position will be based in Wendell, NC.
As the Manager of Training & Workforce Development, you will drive the end-to-end workforce capability development within our switchgear factory, covering onboarding, internal training, continuous learning, and the apprenticeship program. You act as the key interface between your team, internal stakeholders, and senior leadership, ensuring a structured and scalable approach to workforce readiness and development.
You define the workforce capability strategy for the factory, setting up state-of-the-art processes and ensuring alignment with corporate and operational goals. You are responsible for establishing and maintaining a structured framework for onboarding, training, and apprenticeship development, ensuring transparency, consistency, and optimization of workforce capabilities from entry level to experienced employees. You drive automation initiatives and digitalization strategies to modernize training, onboarding, and capability tracking and its experience -delivering measurable results in productivity, efficiency, retention, and workforce flexibility.
You’ll maintain an active communication channel with the Head of Production, Quality, Logistics, P&O, and all other leadership functions. You participate in management meetings, represent workforce capability topics in cross-functional projects, and ensure alignment with corporate programs (Lean, SPS, digital transformation). You serve as a role model for our values and drive continuous improvement across workforce development.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Deploys the Training & Workforce Development strategy aligned to overall factory and corporate strategy.
- Provides leadership to the training team as assigned to ensure an efficient and effective approach in executing a well-defined training program.
- Defines, implements, and maintains standards, regulations, and guidelines for onboarding, training, apprenticeship programs, engineering development programs, and workforce capability development.
- Establishes and continuously improves a structured onboarding program to ensure operational readiness of new hires.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive training and continuous learning framework aligned with production and engineering requirements.
- Expands and manages the apprenticeship programs (in cooperation with NCTAP and EDP), including rotation concepts, development pathways, and long-term workforce planning.
- Leads and develops external partnerships (e.g., Wake Tech), ensuring alignment between academic programs and operational needs.
- Introduces and maintains competency models, skill matrices, and capability tracking systems to ensure workforce transparency and flexibility.
- Ensures effective workforce capability management, covering training effectiveness, onboarding quality, and alignment with operational requirements.
- Drives training and workforce development related KPIs (time to productivity, training effectiveness, learning hours, internal promotion rate, retention) and ensures target achievement.
- Shapes a collaborative team culture and contributes to building a Great Place to Work environment.

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in workforce development.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of shopfloor processes and operational requirements.
- Experience managing structured training programs, onboarding concepts, or apprenticeship models.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong IT affinity and ability to drive digital approach.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong project management skills with high operational impact.
- Analytical and structured thinker.
- Experience with planning and performance tracking.
- Understanding of business management and modern leadership principles.
- Experience in technically demanding production settings is an advantage.
