Job Title: Automotive Painter

Location: Shelby, NC

Schedule / Hours: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Pay Range: $22.00 – $24.00 / hour

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Automotive Painter to join our production team. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in prepping, painting, and finishing vehicle components or bodies. You will ensure that all work meets quality standards, adhere to safety protocols, and collaborate closely with other production and finishing staff to meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting: sanding, cleaning, masking, stripping, and priming
• Mix, match, and apply paint, primers, base coats, and clear coats using spray guns and related equipment
• Operate and maintain paint booths, spray equipment, and related finishing tools
• Inspect painted parts for defects (runs, sags, drips, orange peel, color mismatch) and perform touch-ups or corrections
• Collaborate with other departments (body, welding, assembly) to ensure smooth workflow and timely handoffs
• Maintain clean and orderly work area; clean spray guns, nozzles, and equipment after use
• Adhere to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and proper handling of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials
• Document production numbers, paint usage, and job records as required
• Assist in training or mentoring less experienced painters / prep personnel, when needed

Qualifications & Skills

Required

• Proven experience as an automotive or industrial painter
• Proficiency with spray guns, paint mixing, color matching, and finishing techniques
• Strong understanding of surface prep, masking, priming, and defect correction
• Familiarity with safety standards, PPE, and handling of paint/chemical materials
• Good attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to produce consistent finishes
• Ability to read work orders, technical instructions, or painting specifications
• Reliable attendance and willingness to work the full shift hours

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Work in a painting shop environment with exposure to paint fumes, solvents, and particulate matter
• Use of personal protective equipment (respirators, gloves, safety glasses, coveralls) is mandatory
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
• Ability to lift and maneuver parts or panels as needed (weights can vary)
• Exposure to changes in temperature, humidity, and possible overspray
