AREA GENERAL MANAGER

Our client is a well-established commercial mechanical services company that has built an outstanding reputation for technical excellence, customer relationships, and operational execution throughout the Charlotte market. Backed by a rapidly growing national mechanical services platform, the business is entering its next phase of growth while maintaining the entrepreneurial culture and local decision-making that made it successful.
The Area General Manager will have full ownership of the Charlotte operation, including financial performance, customer satisfaction, employee development, operational execution, and long-term market growth. This individual will serve as the senior leader for the business, responsible for building a high-performing team while executing a strategic growth plan across service, projects, and sales.
The ideal candidate is a proven commercial HVAC or mechanical services leader who enjoys building teams, growing businesses, and creating accountability throughout an organization.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Full P&L responsibility for the Charlotte operation
- Overall business strategy, execution, and market growth
- Revenue, profitability, and operational performance
- Leadership and development of service, project, sales, and administrative teams
- Customer retention and expansion of key strategic relationships
- Recruiting, mentoring, and succession planning
- Safety, quality, and operational excellence across the business
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the Charlotte business with complete accountability for operational and financial performance.
- Develop and execute annual business plans focused on revenue growth, profitability, customer expansion, and market share.
- Build, coach, and retain a high-performing leadership team while creating a culture centered around accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement.
- Drive operational discipline through KPIs, forecasting, scorecards, and regular business reviews.
- Partner with customers to strengthen relationships while identifying opportunities for additional service offerings and long-term partnerships.
- Ensure consistent execution across service operations, project delivery, safety, customer experience, and financial performance.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and peer business units to leverage best practices, resources, and operational efficiencies.
- Recruit and develop future leaders to support continued organizational growth.
THE IDEAL BACKGROUND
We're looking for an operational leader who has successfully grown a commercial mechanical service business and understands how to balance people, customers, and financial performance.
Ideal candidates will possess:
- 7-10+ years of progressive leadership experience within commercial HVAC, mechanical services, facilities services, or a related field service business
- Demonstrated success leading a branch, business unit, or regional operation
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&Ls, budgets, forecasting, pricing, and margins
- Experience leading both service and project operations
- Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing teams
- Strong executive presence with the ability to build trust with employees, customers, and senior leadership
- Technical understanding of commercial HVAC service operations is strongly preferred

First 90 Days
- Build relationships across the organization and establish credibility with employees and customers.
- Evaluate current operations, financial performance, staffing, and customer portfolio.
- Identify immediate opportunities to improve execution, profitability, and accountability.
- Develop a strategic operating plan aligned with leadership's expectations.
- Establish key performance metrics and communication rhythms across the business.
First 12 Months
- Deliver measurable revenue and profitability growth.
- Strengthen customer retention while expanding strategic accounts.
- Improve operational efficiency and execution across service and project operations.
- Recruit and develop key leadership talent.
- Build a culture centered around accountability, ownership, safety, and customer experience.
- Position the Charlotte operation for continued long-term expansion.
