GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pastor for Family Discipleship will work with the elders to implement the overall discipleship plan for the student and children’s ministry to see them grow in their walks with God. He will train, equip, and encourage parents in their roles as the main disciplers (Deut. 6:4-9; Psalm 78:5-8). He will also train, organize, and serve alongside volunteer leaders as they teach and love the children who attend our church (Eph. 4:12).
● The Pastor for Family Discipleship will meet the scriptural qualifications for the office of elder stipulated in 1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9; and 1 Peter 5:1–4. Fairview elders affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and share the following responsibilities, among others:
● The Elders oversee and are responsible for the preaching and teaching ministries of the church (Acts 20:31; Titus 1:9; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Timothy 3:2, 5:17; Hebrews 13:7).
● The Elders are responsible for praying for the members of the church individually and collectively (James 5:14; Acts 6:4).
● The Elders are responsible for shepherding the church members (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2) by providing spiritual nourishment to the congregation through biblical instruction (1 Peter 2:2; Matthew 4:4) and spiritual protection by watching over their souls (Hebrews 13:17; James 5:14).
● The Elders are responsible for providing oversight and directional leadership to the ministries of the church (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2).
STUDENT MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Works with the elders to identify leaders for student ministry.
● Oversees and leads all student ministry gatherings and provides pastoral oversight and encouragement to the volunteers for Sunday school classes, Wednesday night activities, summer programs, etc.
● Oversees and leads regular training and equipping events of student volunteers.
● Partners with parents to disciple students through gospel transformation, loving community, and missional living.
● Shepherds students to understand the gospel, baptism, and church membership, and develops student leaders.
● Organizes regular student activities and occasional large events such as discipleship conferences, camps, and student retreats to foster a culture of loving community.
● Communicates regularly with parents about student ministry curriculum and events to connect church teaching with family discipleship.
● Plans for student graduation and other milestone recognitions.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
● Works with the elders and children’s director to identify leaders for children’s ministry.
● Oversees and leads all children’s ministry activities and provides pastoral oversight and encouragement to the children’s director and volunteers for extended care, children’s Sunday school classes, children’s Wednesday night activities, summer programs, etc.
● Oversees and leads regular training and equipping events of children’s volunteers.
● Partners with parents to disciple children through gospel transformation, loving community, and missional living.
● Shepherds children in gospel conversations and leads them to understand baptism and church membership.
● Coordinates with the children’s director and ministry volunteers to ensure they are ready each week and that classrooms have the needed supplies.
● Communicates regularly with parents about children’s ministry curriculum and events to connect church teaching with family discipleship.
● Plans for parent/child dedications and other milestone recognitions.
OTHER DETAILS
● This is a full-time elder position with benefits.
● This Elder will maintain general office hours Monday–Thursday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm, with flexibility for family and service on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
● He should expect other hours as required to meet ministry needs.
● Travel is expected for at least 2–3 weeks per year for student events, ministry conferences, and mission trips.
