Rolling Stock Systems Commissioning Specialist
Shape the future of rail at Siemens Mobility — Lexington, NC
From the first mile to the last, we help move America. For more than 160 years, Siemens has advanced U.S. infrastructure, electrification, and transportation. In our Rolling Stock Division, we unite automation with digitalization to reimagine rail — improving safety, punctuality, reliability, and sustainability while driving down operating costs for mass transit and freight.
Join our world-class passenger railcar manufacturing facility in Lexington, NC. Siemens Mobility is the North American market leader for passenger coaches, locomotives, and light rail vehicles. As a Rolling Stock Systems Commissioning Specialist, you’ll bring cutting-edge trains to life by commissioning, diagnosing, and fixing complex electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
A day in the life
You start your shift walking the line of newly built coaches and locomotives. A unit is ready for power-up — you verify safety, connect test gear, and bring systems online. When a fault appears, you dive into schematics, pull your PTU’s, and isolate the issue. You document findings, repair the root cause, validate with diagnostic equipment, and return the vehicle to the program on schedule — collaborating with teammates from multiple disciplines along the way.
What you’ll do
- Commission electrical and mechanical systems on locomotive and coach cars.
- Troubleshoot, document, and repair electrical and mechanical failures.
- Operate state-of-the-art diagnostic and test equipment.
- Follow company and industry safety standards without compromise.
- Communicate procedures, technical findings, and recommendations clearly in writing and verbally.
- Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Read and interpret written and electronic schematics.
- Use PTU’s to troubleshoot various systems onboard rail vehicles.
What you’ll bring
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of hands-on electrical testing experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in electrical troubleshooting.
- Associate’s degree in engineering, mechatronics, or similar (preferred).
Physical realities of the role
- Comfort working at times in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Activities may include standing, walking, sitting, stair climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and frequent use of hands to handle tools and components.
- Frequent verbal communication; occasional odor detection tasks.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Vision needs include close and distance vision, color differentiation, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Rewards and growth
- 11 paid holidays and 18 days of PTO.
- 401(k) with 6% company match.
- Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, plus HSA/FSA and Commuter Benefits starting Day 1.
- Work on meaningful, innovative projects that solve real-world challenges.
- Dynamic, pioneering tech environment with a competitive total rewards package.
- Tuition reimbursement, mentorship programs, and robust online learning to accelerate your development.
- Employee perks and discounts — in addition to our 401(k) match and generous Paid Time Off.
