Job Title: Staff Accountant
Reports to: Controller
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Purpose: The Staff Accountant will be responsible for computing and preparing data for journal entries and reviewing general ledger activity and related financial statements. This position may assist with the preparation of financial statements, reports, and tax filings. This position requires an individual that has a desire to serve both internal and external customers with the ability to manage multiple priorities with deadlines while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail. The company continues to show steady growth, and the Senior Accountant is required to have a strong focus on the continues improvement of processes and controls.
Employment at Will: Nothing herein is intended to create a contract of employment or to guarantee employment for a definite duration.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Analyze monthly general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to various accounts to ensure they are recorded appropriately
- Prepare and record journal entries for various accounts (including accruals, prepaids, etc.)
- Prepare and calculate monthly commission statements
- Support the closing of monthly books
- Review all cash entries are posted correctly prior to month end closing and reconciling bank accounts
- Prepare various account reconciliations and assist with the balance sheet analyses and other financial reports during month end close process
- Work with colleagues at sister companies to reconcile intercompany accounts at least monthly
- Maintain various spreadsheets to support financial transactions and analyses of various expenses
- Assist with development and ongoing execution of dashboard reporting
- Assist Accounts Payable Manager with inquiries/issues with the expense management tools
- Assists with company cost allocations/methodologies and oversight
- Assist with preliminary and year-end audits
- Offers suggestions about streamlining processes
- Involved in other accounting and financial projects as assigned
- Contribute to Team Effort by leading by example; initiating an open and positive attitude; coordinating all the above tasks for the company in a professional manner
Position Requirements:
- 3-5 years general accounting experience
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred, but not required.
- Understanding of percentage of completion accounting preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organization.
- Excellent proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PDF programs.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with limited supervision.
- Ability to take care of both internal and external customers’ needs while following company procedures.
- Accuracy and Organization– Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Communication –Strong oral and written communication skills. Comfortable presenting information to all levels of management. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task, solve problems, and possess strong analytical skills.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- May be required to work extended hours, particularly during month/year end. Some travel may be required, however limited.
- Ability to be internally inspired to perform a task to the best of one’s ability using his or her own drive or initiative.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to take ownership and care about final output.
- Must be detail oriented and dependable.
- Position requires adaptability, flexibility and being open to change with the ability to resolve problems efficiently.
- Ability to effectively build relationships with customers and coworkers.
