Logistics & Indirect Category Leader

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the VP of Sourcing, the Logistics & Indirect Category Leader is responsible for the procurement of logistics and indirect commodities and services. Operating with a results-driven mindset, the ideal candidate will be consistent in delivering measurable and auditable results, while enhancing supplier performance and cost savings objectives. The Logistics & Indirect Category Leader will manage and develop a Logistics Associate who they will collaborate with to optimize routing strategies, manage freight costs, ensure timely delivery performance , maintain relationships with key logistics providers, obtain quotes, examine bids and remain up to date with market insights and the latest logistics trends. The ideal candidate will help drive a competitive business advantage by using their continuous improvement mind-set to lead and implement innovative strategies and establishing standards for indirect and logistics spend throughout the organization with a focus around quality and delivery across the organization’s non-production expenditures.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Develop indirect and logistics savings and improvement projects to enhance margins and other key KPIs
• Lead the RFQ selection of preferred logistics providers and establish performance requirements, to ensure they consistently meet our requirements and provide appropriate feedback and business reviews ensure they consistently meet our requirements
• Review carrier invoices, address carrier damages, claims and packaging issues
• Lead contract negotiations to secure agreements for the largest portion of spend in each major indirect category that represents the largest suppliers and largest proportion of spend (indirect categories include, but are not limited to: MRO, IT hardware/software, professional services, utilities and corporate services
• Partner cross-departmentally, sharing information about industry and global best practices, while identifying opportunities to work collaboratively on relevant projects and collaborate with the Finance Department to provide price and budget guidance
• Create an environment of continuous improvement within the supply chain department by developing and implementing effective policies and SOP’s

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
• 3+ years managing a team
• 5+ years of work experience in logistics and/or indirect category management
• Proven ability to translate global transportation and logistics marketplace trends into actionable, regional/local sourcing strategies
• Proficient with Microsoft Suite (specifically Excel & Access)
• Domestic travel required (up to 20%)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

• MBA or other advanced degree
• Experience utilizing Lean Manufacturing Tools
• Experience managing multi-site procurement operations
