Shop Foreman

Position Overview : As the Shop Foreman at Buddy Isles Tire and Automotive, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities within the shop to ensure efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, and technician productivity. You’ll serve as the lead technical expert, supporting diagnostic and repair processes, managing work distribution, and ensuring jobs are completed on time and in line with industry standards. This hands-on leadership role plays a critical part in maintaining shop efficiency, safety, and team performance while helping deliver an exceptional service experience to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operations & Workflow Management:

• Oversee daily shop floor operations and ensure all repair and restoration jobs are performed efficiently and correctly.
• Dispatch repair orders and monitor work progress to ensure timely completion.
• Assist technicians with complex diagnostics and repair procedures.
• Serve as the go-to resource for technical questions, troubleshooting, and second opinions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, ensuring all technicians follow shop protocols and safety standards.
• Perform quality control checks on completed jobs to verify accuracy and adherence to company and industry standards.
• Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Delegate shop cleaning and oversee upkeep of company-owned fleet vehicles.
• Monitor and support technician efficiency, productivity, and clocked hours to maximize shop performance.
• Source, quote, and order all necessary parts to complete in-shop repairs efficiently and accurately, while ensuring cost-effectiveness and value.

Team Leadership & Development:

• Lead by example on the shop floor with professionalism, work ethic, and technical expertise.
• Mentor, train, and support new and existing technicians in skill development and procedural compliance.
• Promote a positive team culture through communication, collaboration, and accountability.
• Provide informal feedback and performance coaching to technicians, and communicate concerns to management.
• Assist with onboarding and technical evaluation of prospective hires when needed.

Administrative Support & Communication:

• Communicate effectively with Service Advisors to relay repair status, parts needs, and job complexities.
• Assist in ensuring accurate repair order documentation and completion.
• Participate in morning production meetings (Toolbox Talks) and other internal meetings as directed.
• Report shop floor issues, staffing needs, or process gaps to upper management and/or owners.
• Enforce shop policies and assist with corrective actions or write-ups when necessary.
• Cover shop leadership responsibilities in the absence of owners

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a lead technician or shop foreman in the automotive industry is REQUIRED.
• Strong technical knowledge of diagnostics, repair procedures, and industry standards.
• Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.
• Strong verbal communication and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality control.
• Familiarity with service software such as Tekmetric, ALLDATA, and Identifix .
• ASE certifications or equivalent experience preferred.
