Overview:

Our client, a growing professional services firm, is seeking a Consultant to support client engagements in the development, implementation, and assessment of client resilience, crisis management, business continuity, continuity of operations, and emergency management capabilities. The role is delivery-focused on research, technical writing, plan development, exercise facilitation, and client-ready deliverables.

  • Leadership. Lead assigned client engagement workstreams from kickoff through deliverable submission. Maintain quality and methodology standards on assigned work. Mentor junior team members on shared engagements. Keep workstreams in scope, on schedule, and aligned to COMPANY quality standards.
  • Service Delivery. Engage directly with client stakeholders on assigned workstreams — workshops, interviews, working sessions, and deliverable presentations. Communicate clearly, professionally, and on cadence throughout the engagement lifecycle. Build effective working relationships with client teams. Participate in industry communities (IAEM, AAAE, DRI International, etc.) to keep credentials current and stay close to evolving practice.
  • Technical Expertise. Bring credentialed-practitioner depth across business continuity, continuity of operations, and emergency management:
  1. Resilience and Continuity Planning. Conduct comprehensive resilience, risk, and BCM assessments, Business Impact Analyses (BIA), resilience and continuity strategy development, documented procedures aligned to ISO 22301, NFPA 1600, and/or FEMA CPG-101. Develop Business Continuity Plans (BCP), Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP), Emergency Operations Plans (EOP), Hazard Vulnerability Analyses (HVA), and Threat and Hazard Identification and Ris Assessment (THIRA).
  2. Training and Exercise Delivery. Design and facilitate HSEEP-aligned tabletop and functional exercises. Deliver client training on continuity, crisis management, and emergency response. Produce after-action reports (AAR) and Multi-Year Training and Exercise Plans (MYTEP).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive resilience and BCM assessments - risk assessments, business impact analyses (BIA), hazard vulnerability assessments (HVA), and THIRAs, to identify client vulnerabilities, dependencies, and capability gaps.
  • Develop and deliver continuity and emergency management plans — BCPs, COOPs, EOPs, response plans, and crisis management protocols, tailored to each client's sector, maturity, and operating realities, with industry frameworks (ISO 22301, NFPA 1600, FEMA CPG-101) applied as a foundation rather than a checklist.
  • Design, facilitate, and evaluate HSEEP-aligned exercises and training — tabletops, functional exercises, and crisis-response drills, and produce after-action reports (AAR) and Multi-Year Training and Exercise Plans (MYTEP) that drive measurable client improvement.
  • Lead assigned client engagement workstreams from kickoff through deliverable submission — owning scope, schedule, and quality on assigned work, and mentor junior team members on shared engagements.
  • Engage client stakeholders directly - through workshops, interviews, working sessions, and deliverable presentations; build effective working relationships with client teams; communicate clearly and on cadence throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities for organic growth on assigned engagements — surface emerging client needs that align with COMPANYS' broader service offerings, and partner with the CEO on scope expansion within existing accounts.

Ideal Candidate:

This role is for a credentialed, mid-to-senior career consultant with demonstrable depth in continuity and emergency management. We are looking for a practitioner who can lead engagement workstreams independently and produce with high quality.

  • Strong in business strategy, with an ability to take a vision and execute. Understands how to take desired outcomes and client pain points and turn them into targeted deliverable products.
  • Previous consulting experience with a demonstrated ability to lead engagement workstreams from kickoff through deliverable submission with limited oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with an ability to adapt to varying audiences. Proven experience interacting and presenting to director-level and executive stakeholders. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner in writing and live settings.
  • Has the technical depth and experience with the full lifecycle of business continuity, continuity of operations, and emergency management - integrating crisis management, crisis communications, and enterprise risk. Thinks beyond the standard playbook. Treats industry frameworks (ISO 22301, NFPA 1600, FEMA CPG-101, HSEEP) as a foundation rather than a checklist, and adapts methodology to client maturity, sector realities, and what will actually work for the organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must live in metro Charlotte, NC, or within a 2-hour or less drive.
  • 5–8 years of professional services experience in business continuity, continuity of operations, and emergency management consulting. Demonstrated experience producing BIAs, BCPs, COOPs, EOPs, THIRAs, and HVAs as primary or significant author.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, emergency management, risk management, or a related discipline.
  • Active credentials: Certified Business Continuity Planner and / or Certified Emergency Manager
  • Proficiency with modern collaboration and document-development tools (Microsoft 365, project management software, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a consulting environment with a desire to transition to a small business and make a more meaningful direct impact.
  • Experience working in the private sector, government, and transportation sectors (airports and transit).

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel.
