Job Summary:
The Contract Superintendent is the on-site leader responsible for the daily coordination and supervision of all field activities for assigned construction projects. This individual will manage subcontractors, enforce safety protocols, and ensure all work adheres to contract specifications, budgets, and schedules. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem-solver with exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of driving project success from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities:
- On-Site Management: Lead and direct all on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Safety Enforcement: Implement and strictly enforce company and site-specific safety plans and policies, conducting regular inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Manage and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and labor to ensure efficient sequencing of work and adherence to contract scopes.
- Scheduling and Planning: Collaborate with the Project Manager to create, maintain, and manage the project schedule, implementing recovery strategies as needed to meet deadlines.
- Quality Control: Conduct daily site inspections to monitor progress and verify that all work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Communication and Reporting: Maintain effective communication with project managers, clients, architects, and engineers, providing regular updates on progress, issues, and solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive daily reports and logs detailing all on-site activities, including labor, equipment, and material deliveries.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively identify and resolve construction issues and conflicts, escalating complex problems to the project team when necessary.
- Cost Control: Monitor project costs, track material and equipment usage, and accurately document any potential change orders.
- Project Closeout: Oversee and complete punch list items, final inspections, and closeout procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 5–10 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory role.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction means, methods, scheduling, and cost control procedures.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with construction management software, such as Procore or similar platforms, is required.
- Certifications: OSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 30) is preferred.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all project stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: A strong ability to think critically and resolve on-site challenges efficiently.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to adapt to changes in project scope, schedule, or conditions without compromising quality.
Work Environment:
The Contract Superintendent's role is primarily based at the project site and requires a strong physical presence on-site daily. The position may require working extended hours and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Macallan Construction is a medium sized commercial construction company established in 2003. Our work consists of new construction and renovations small projects from 1200 sq ft to large ones that are 30,000 sq. ft. We have a friendly and relaxed work environment and truly embody a team approach.
