AI Enablement Specialist

Smith Anderson
Raleigh, NC

Job Description

Job Description

Smith Anderson is a well-established and dynamic mid-size law firm, providing top-tier legal services to clients across a range of industries. We value a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture where our people are empowered to think big, grow professionally, and make meaningful contributions every day. We’re seeking an AI Enablement Specialist to help advance the firm’s use of artificial intelligence.

The AI Enablement Specialist serves as an internal consultant to attorneys, paralegals and business professionals, helping them identify opportunities to improve legal work through the thoughtful application of artificial intelligence. Working directly with practice groups and administrative departments, this role designs, tests and refines AI-enabled workflows that improve quality, efficiency, and client service while supporting the firm’s responsible use of AI.

This role is designed for a legal professional (e.g., paralegal or legal operations analyst) who understands how legal work gets done and can apply emerging AI tools in a thoughtful, accurate, and defensible way. The position emphasizes workflow integration, applied problem-solving, and credibility with attorneys, rather than technical development. Success in this role will accelerate the firm's adoption of AI by helping attorneys and business professionals confidently incorporate AI into everyday work while improving the quality, consistency, and efficiency of legal services.

Primary Responsibilities:

Workflow Development

  • Partner with attorneys and business professional to understand workflows, pain points, and opportunities for efficiency
  • Design, test, and refine AI-supported workflows (e.g., drafting, summarization, research, document analysis)
  • Validate AI outputs for accuracy, consistency, and defensibility in legal contexts
  • Develop prompt frameworks, playbooks, and repeatable use cases for firmwide use

Training & Adoption

  • Develop and deliver engaging training sessions, workshops, and one-on-one coaching on AI tools and best practices
  • Create user-friendly training materials, quick-reference guides, and internal communications
  • Act as a go-to resource for questions related to AI tools and capabilities
  • Develop trusted relationships with practice groups and administrative departments to understand evolving needs and identify opportunities for AI adoption.

Knowledge & Governance

  • Collaborate with the Knowledge Management team to integrate AI into existing KM systems and processes
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and internal standards for AI usage
  • Share insights and recommendations with KM leadership and firm stakeholders
  • Promote responsible, effective, and secure use of AI across the firm

Evaluation & Innovation

  • Evaluate new tools and features with a practical, user-focused lens
  • Stay informed on emerging AI trends, particularly as they relate to legal services
  • Be flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the position as AI continues to mature.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 2–5 years of professional experience (legal, consulting, professional services, or technology-related roles preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and explain them in clear, practical terms
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and work effectively in a project-based environment
  • Interest in AI, legal technology, and innovation

Preferred

  • Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., generative AI, legal research platforms, document automation tools)
  • Experience delivering training or presenting to professional audiences
  • Exposure to Knowledge Management, legal operations, or practice support functions

Key Competencies:

  • Consultative Mindset: Ability to facilitate discussions, ask effective questions, and translate business needs into practical technology solutions.
  • Communication: Clear, confident communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Curiosity: Eagerness to learn and experiment with new tools and approaches
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a rapidly evolving technology environment
  • Collaboration: Strong team player who builds relationships across functions
  • Service and ownership: Committed to meeting needs and following through until the goal is achieved

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience [paralegal certification, JD or experience supporting legal practice preferred]
