Role Summary We are seeking a Remote Senior Accountant, Advisor to join a progressive, cloud-focused accounting firm. This advisory role involves managing a diverse portfolio of small business clients, handling both accounting and tax requirements. You will serve as the primary point of contact, providing year-round strategic tax planning, monthly financial analysis, and annual income tax preparation in a flexible, technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Advisory & Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact and advisor for a book of small business clients regarding their accounting and tax needs.
- Monthly/Quarterly Financials: Review data recorded by bookkeepers, close the books monthly/quarterly, prepare cash and accrual basis reports, and provide financial analysis notes to clients.
- Tax Planning & Preparation: Prepare monthly/quarterly tax projections, perform ongoing tax planning and research (including entity structure and retirement contribution strategies), prepare sales tax filings, and complete annual income tax preparation (individual and business).
- Role Breakdown: Approx. 35% Tax Planning/CAS; 35% Tax Prep (seasonal); 30% Book Review.
- Workflow Oversight: Oversee payroll via Gusto (onboarding, troubleshooting, integrations) and manage the oversight of A/R and A/P handled by bookkeepers.
- Technical Accounting: Prepare and maintain client workpapers, perform balance sheet reconciliations (bank, credit card, clearing accounts, etc.), and troubleshoot various software integrations (Xero, QBO, HubDoc, Expensify, Zapier, etc.).
Qualifications/Requirements
- Certification: CPA or EA required.
- Experience: At least five years of accounting experience, preferably managing multiple clients simultaneously.
- Small Business Expertise: Experience working with small businesses, specifically closely held pass-through entities.
- Technical Skills: Experience with preparing and advising on small business taxes (Schedule C, S-Corp, C-Corp, and Partnerships).
- Accounting Knowledge: Experience with accrual/GAAP reporting, workpapers, and a deep ability to analyze and clearly explain financial statements to clients.
- Attributes: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, proficiency in Excel, a love for technology, and the ability to take ownership.
