Salary Range: $45,000- $50,000 annually (non-negotiable)

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience providing psychoeducation to children and families.
  • Demonstrated supervised experience in providing counseling and/or psychotherapy/psychoeducation services.
  • Excellent organizational skills, dependent and responsive with attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude, and maximum discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to accept personal differences, establish trusting relationships, and work with culturally diverse populations.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of and experience in the areas of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, diagnostic assessment, family systems theory, and group treatment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be client-service oriented, being sensitive to client’s immediate needs.
  • Extended knowledge of community and social services in Miami-Dade County.
  • Certification in the evidence-based curriculum: Nurturing Parenting Program would be an asset.
  • Must have access to a licensed, insured personal vehicle at all times during work hours for reliable transportation. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for the use of personal vehicles as part of work-related travel.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing program support to further the work of the COS/COSP Program. Parenting Educator will work with individual families, working with children and parents in their homes to optimize the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the child and parents. Employee conducts intake and assessment of needs; develops a family support plan with family; and makes appropriate referrals to community resources as needed. Employee will assist in strengthening the parent-child relationship by improving knowledge of child development and parenting skills, reducing family stress, and meeting the needs of parents using EBP family nurturing approaches. Employee maintains required record keeping and reporting and participates in required meetings and trainings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct intakes with families and assess strengths and needs to develop a family support plan with goals, objectives, and activities to meet identified needs.
  • Assist parents in learning problem-solving and coping skills by providing supportive counseling and/or by referring them to appropriate agencies.
  • Establish a trusting relationship with families by providing regular contact through weekly home visits.
  • Enhance positive parent-child interaction by providing parents with psychoeducation on child development and age-appropriate developmental activities using the Nurturing Parenting curriculum which will: (i) guide parents and children through activities designed to build self-awareness, positive concepts, self-esteem, and levels of empathy; and (ii) teach alternatives to hitting and yelling; enhance family communication and awareness of needs; replace abusive behaviors with nurturing behaviors, and promote healthy physical and emotional development.
  • Apply working knowledge of parent-child interaction, child development, and the dynamics of child abuse/neglect to help families improve parenting skills, reduce stress, and meet the dependency needs of parents.
  • Maintain client case files including documentation of client observations and activities as required and all necessary paperwork including those required for follow-up monitoring.
  • Act as a liaison between families and other community agencies and serve as family advocate as required.
  • Assist parents in making and attending appointments for doctors, social service agencies, etc.
  • Collect information needed for family assessments and program evaluation.
  • Meet or exceed service productivity target.
  • Become familiar with and utilize internal and external resources as needed to provide comprehensive services to clients.
  • Assist in establishing effective communication between Gang Alternative, Inc., (GA) other social agencies serving clients, and the community.
  • Work cooperatively with Circle of Strength Family Network team members to assure clients timely access to quality services.
  • Work cooperatively with other GA program team members to assure clients’ timely access to quality services.
  • Meet GA’s quality and compliance standards by accurately completing documentation and service reporting in a timely manner.
  • Participate in program evaluation and development of service options that best address client need
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, weekly supervision, in-service trainings, development seminars, and other meetings as required.
  • Participate in case supervision and in regular performance appraisals with Program Manager as directed.
  • Abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations. Maintain strict confidentiality when handling client information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
