• Performs initial assessment of patients’ medical, physical, and psychosocial status, to include:
  • Provides diagnosis and treatment for established and new patients while functioning within the authorized limits of standards and protocols of ARA Health Specialists, P. A. and within the limits and components of the Nursing Practice Act or Physician Assistant license.
  • Conducts clinical visits under the supervision of a physician
  • Conduct history and physicals
  • Develop treatment plans
  • Follow physician treatment plans
  • Coordinate treatment plans with patients and providers
• Serves as a patient advocate from initial patient encounter to end of treatment plan.
  • Be accessible to patients and family members throughout the cancer care continuum, and be responsive, knowledgeable, and empathetic regarding all care needs
  • Respond to patient challenges/barriers to care until resolution is achieved
• Coach and assist patients to remove barriers related to insurance coverage, transportation, childcare, finances, language, etc.
• Serves as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary care team and maintains on-going communication with multiple clinicians.
• Facilitates patient movement through the appropriate clinical pathway and collaborates with physicians to ensure patient compliance
• Writes orders for medications, IV fluids, diagnostic tests, etc. (countersigned by the supervising physician when needed)
• Provides patient education and counseling.
• Improves performance through a process of assessment and change, takes action to meet referring physician and patient needs, and assures his or her own work achieves quality standards.
• Provides education and acts as a resource to health care staff to improve the management of patients. Develops and conducts educational programs/in-services to educate staff as requested.
• Follows safety policies and procedures as outlined in all federal, state, ARAHS and hospital guidelines. Assures continuous improvement of workplace safety by reporting unsafe conditions and suggesting safety improvements as appropriate.
• Works on special projects as requested by supervising physicians and administration.
• Attends monthly Breast Imaging Leadership Team Meetings
• Organizes and facilitates monthly Breast Imaging Section Meetings, and assists Section Directors in preparing meeting materials
• Schedules and facilitates quarterly Breast Imaging Quality Improvement/Peer Review meetings
• Actively participates in Hospital Breast Leadership and Breast Care Teams
• Serves as coordinator of the High-Risk Women’s Program and participates in regular planning, implementation, and improvement meetings for the program
• Maintains open communication and positive relationships with other breast care providers, as well as oncology nurse navigators, referring physicians, and hospital administrative team members

QUALIFICATIONS :
Required:

• BS degree with Physician Assistant certification and fully licensed by the State of North Carolina OR MSN degree as a Nurse Practitioner and fully licensed by the State of North Carolina. Licensure must be current and maintained.
• Current CPR certification
• Excellent telephone and clerical skills (to include computer skills, keyboarding, accurate documenting, filing, etc.)
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, dependability and work independently with little supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively perform job duties
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to be an efficient, cooperative team member
• Must possess the ability prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
