Physician (Breast Surgeon) (Salisbury)

Summary

The W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center is seeking a part-time Physician (Breast Surgeon) within the General Surgery section. The breast surgeon works within an interdisciplinary team including physicians, physician extenders, technicians, and administrative staff. The role involves providing comprehensive breast surgical care in accordance with established policies of the Department of Surgery/General Surgery section.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Those pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
• Doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine degree from an approved school
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to board eligibility, approved by the VA
• Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
• Preferred experience in breast disease management or completion of a Breast Fellowship
• Physical ability to perform duties including standing, reaching, bending, and carrying items

Duties

• Provide compassionate and effective patient care for breast diseases and malignancies
• Participate in administrative, clinical, educational, and research activities
• Attend staff meetings, communicate within the chain of command, and prepare issue briefs
• Manage clinical documentation, monitor clinic productivity, and oversee quality and safety measures
• Educate surgical residents, PA students, and medical students; participate in academic appointments and research activities
• Contribute to system improvements and participate in VA's total rewards program
