Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3/4 NICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity NICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity
- Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital setting
- Patient population includes complex neonatal respiratory, cardiac, neurological, GI/GU, and metabolic diagnoses such as RDS, congenital heart defects, HIE, NEC, NAS, and TORCH infections
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays plus every other weekend (Sat/Sun) within each 6-week scheduling cycle
- Floating may occur to Neonatal PCU, Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds unit as a helping hand (unless candidate has prior experience in those areas)
- No on-call responsibilities for travelers; floating to similar units may occur if the NICU cannot utilize the traveler
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in critical care vasoactive drip titration and sedation/analgesic drip management
- Experience with invasive line management including arterial lines and CVP
- Ventilator and trach management experience required
- Experience with chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, and foley catheter insertion and management
- Familiarity with g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, oral/nasal suctioning, and aseptic/sterile technique
- Experience with Alaris and Medfusion pump management
- CRRT experience and baby-side ECMO experience preferred; manager has shown flexibility on EVD, ICP monitoring (Camino device), ECMO, and CRRT experience
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide high-acuity neonatal nursing care including bedside procedures with providers, critical drip management, and complex patient monitoring
- Strong departmental support includes a unit secretary, charge nurse, IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, and unit-based educators — all available 24/7 or in-house
- Orientation consists of a NEO program plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage is required; travelers are scheduled for the day of the holiday, plus the eve and/or day after, on an every-other-holiday basis
- RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant RTO needs may be required to extend their contract
- Scheduling is based on unit needs and is finalized every 6 weeks after the core team schedule is approved
- Scrubs must be solid navy; long-sleeve underlayers must be solid navy or white; scrub tops should be pediatric-friendly — no tight-fitting scrubs or other organization-branded attire
- 'Bare Below Elbow' policy is enforced in the nursery — no watches, jewelry (permanent or otherwise), rings, or artificial nails
- First-time travelers are considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
