Job Title: General Laborer / Yard Associate – Scaffolding Team
Job Description
This role starts as a Yard Associate supporting a busy scaffolding operation and offers a clear path to join a traveling scaffold builder team working across the Charlotte area. You will handle scaffold materials in a large yard facility, load and unload company trucks, and manage inventory. As you progress, you will help set up and dismantle scaffolding at various construction sites, working outdoors and using hand tools to support carpenters and forepersons.
Responsibilities
- Sort and organize scaffold materials in the yard to ensure safe and efficient access for field crews.
- Load and unload company trucks with scaffold components for carpenters and forepersons.
- Take inventory of scaffold materials in the yard and help maintain accurate stock levels.
- Station and retrieve equipment on the property in accordance with yard procedures.
- Support daily setup of job sites by moving materials around the site and staging equipment.
- Assist in building and erecting scaffolding structures under the direction of experienced scaffold builders and forepersons.
- Help dismantle scaffolding at the end of projects, ensuring components are safely removed and returned to the yard.
- Use hand tools, including hammers and tape measures, to assemble and secure scaffold units.
- Load company trucks at job sites with dismantled scaffold materials for return to the yard.
- Travel across the Charlotte area to various commercial construction and industrial job sites as part of the scaffold team.
- Follow all safety procedures, including the use of harnesses up to 10 feet initially and, after certification, at greater heights.
- Work collaboratively with forepersons and team members, taking on additional duties as assigned on site.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area in both the yard and on job sites and handle materials with care to prevent damage.
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn carpentry and construction techniques related to scaffolding.
- Progress toward scaffold carpenter certification after the initial 90-day period, supporting a long-term career path in the trade.
Essential Skills
- Ability to perform general labor tasks, including heavy lifting and manual material handling.
- Comfort working outside on construction sites and in a large open yard environment.
- Experience using basic hand tools such as hammers and tape measures.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn scaffold building and construction practices.
- Capacity to work safely around construction, carpentry, framing, roofing, landscaping, and demolition activities.
- Ability to travel regularly across the Charlotte area to different job sites.
- Comfort working at heights, with the ability to use a safety harness up to 10 feet initially and progress to greater heights over time.
- Reliability and strong work ethic to support daily yard operations and field work.
- Physical stamina to work in outdoor conditions and navigate large facilities and job sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with hand tools or power tools is a plus.
- Experience in carpentry, framing, roofing, landscaping, demolition, or commercial construction is beneficial.
- Experience with yard work or outdoor labor contributes to success in this role.
- Interest in developing skills as a scaffold carpenter and pursuing certification.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work under the guidance of forepersons and experienced scaffold builders.

Work Environment
You work primarily outdoors on construction sites and in a large scaffolding yard, which is one of the biggest divisions, with an open yard area and facilities up to approximately 70,000 square feet. The site includes a two-story indoor facility featuring break rooms, water coolers, and vending machines, providing comfortable spaces for rest and meals. The role involves regular travel across the Charlotte area to various commercial and industrial job sites, where you work in active construction environments and handle scaffold materials and equipment. You use standard hand tools and work around carpentry, framing, roofing, landscaping, and demolition activities. The environment is fast-paced, physically demanding, and safety-focused, with harness use at designated heights and access to appropriate protective gear and allowances, including support for steel toe footwear once you are in a direct role.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
