Duke University is seeking a
Van Services Driver to support safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services in a demand‑response environment. In this role, you’ll work closely with dispatch to transport passengers efficiently while providing a positive and comfortable experience for every rider.
You’ll be a key frontline representative of Duke, using sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety to support daily transportation operations. This role is well‑suited for someone who enjoys working independently, interacting with passengers, and maintaining high safety and service standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to follow instructions normally acquired through partial high school education
- Ability to operate in a demand‑response transportation environment and coordinate with dispatch
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating passenger vehicles or providing customer‑facing transportation services
Other Requirements
- Familiarity with two‑way radios, tablets, or similar communication tools
- Ability to work varying hours, primarily evenings, including outside regular business hours as service demands require
- Ability to complete required paperwork, reports, and inspections accurately and on time
- Commitment to following all safety, traffic laws, and university policies

- Safely operate vans to transport passengers while adhering to traffic laws, service routes, and safety standards
- Follow dispatch instructions and use judgment to plan efficient pick‑up and drop‑off sequences
- Assist passengers as needed and answer service‑related questions politely and accurately
- Complete required manifests, inspections, accident reports, and other documentation
- Use two‑way radios and tablets to communicate incidents, emergencies, or service updates
- Attend required training and maintain knowledge of service routes, safety procedures, and regulations
- Prepare written reports related to accidents, incidents, or vehicle issues as needed

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $22.87.
