Lead Complex Plumbing Design Projects in the Healthcare, Higher Education, and Science & Technology Sectors

Our Raleigh, NC studio is expanding, and we’re looking for a seasoned Plumbing Design Lead to take charge of innovative building projects and guide a growing team of designers and engineers.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity to drive technical excellence, mentor junior staff, and contribute to interdisciplinary design projects that make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities: Plumbing Design Leadership

• Lead plumbing system design for high-performance buildings, from conceptual planning to construction administration.
• Produce and oversee detailed plumbing and piping documentation using Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows.
• Ensure code-compliant, energy-efficient, and sustainable plumbing system design aligned with project goals and industry best practices.
• Coordinate directly with clients, project managers, architects, MEP engineers, and consultants to deliver integrated building solutions.
• Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and deliverables for plumbing design across multiple project phases.
• Supervise and mentor junior plumbing designers, offering technical guidance and performance feedback.
• Support QA/QC efforts, technical reviews, and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve internal processes and streamline project delivery.

Qualifications: What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 15 years of professional plumbing and piping design experience in the A/E industry.
• Specialized experience in healthcare plumbing design, higher education, or science & technology (S&T) facilities.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace tools.
• In-depth knowledge of plumbing codes, design standards (UPC, IPC, NFPA, ASPE), and engineering principles.
• Proven leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to lead design teams while working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
