Multiphysics & Engineering Intern- Summer 2026
Research Department Manager As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities. The work model for the role is onsite/hybrid in Raleigh, NC. You will be mainly accountable for:
- Supporting ABB R&D projects and investigations related to electrical, mechanical, thermal topics, and or (generative) AI
- Finding and evaluating state-of-the art technology from public sources
- Contributing and critiquing new ideas, features, solutions, and evaluation strategies
- Helping design, draw, and model new components and test set-ups
- Helping design, run, and document calculations, simulations, laboratory tests, and experiments

- Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD degree program in the US in Electrical/Mechanical/Materials Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or similar (recent graduates will also be considered)
- Specialized coursework and research/project work in at least one of the following: electrical machines design and testing, mechanical/thermal modelling, mechatronics experimental prototyping, and implementation of (generative) AI
- Intern must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.
- Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Exhibit the capability to manage several tasks at once while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Collaborate with team members to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress.
