OUR MISSION

Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self-efficacy, access to world-class instruction, and financial education.

About This Role

Advance Literacy. Strengthen Instruction. Empower Scholars Through Language.

At Movement Schools, we believe literacy is foundational to scholar success across all content areas. We are seeking a strategic and hands-on ELA Director (K–5) to lead English Language Arts instruction across the network.

This role is ideal for a content expert who understands the science of reading, standards alignment, and high-quality literacy instruction. The ELA Director will lead unit unpackings, coach teachers, and use data to drive strategic improvements in reading, writing, and language development.

If you are passionate about literacy, skilled in developing adults, and committed to closing achievement gaps, we invite you to apply.

As ELA Director, you will:

  • Unpack standards to ensure clarity and alignment across grade levels

  • Ensure vertical coherence in reading, writing, and language instruction

Strengthen Instructional Practice

  • Lead unit unpackings and curriculum planning sessions

  • Model lessons and step into classrooms to coach or teach as needed

  • Provide actionable feedback to increase rigor, text complexity, and student discourse

Leverage Data to Drive Results

  • Analyze literacy data to identify bright spots, trends, and gaps

  • Develop and support strategic action plans to improve reading and writing outcomes

  • Monitor progress and adjust supports to accelerate scholar growth

Build Strong Relationships

  • Build trust with teachers, instructional leaders, and campus teams

  • Collaborate across schools to share best practices and instructional resources

  • Develop partnerships within and beyond the network to strengthen literacy outcomes

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a leader who combines deep literacy expertise with strong relational leadership.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Have deep knowledge of K–5 ELA Common Core standards and literacy development

  • Can clearly unpack standards and translate them into strong daily instruction

  • Are confident coaching teachers and modeling effective literacy practices

  • Use data to drive strategic decisions and close gaps

  • Build collaborative, trusting relationships

  • Lead with urgency, clarity, and high expectations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful K–5 teaching experience in ELA

  • Demonstrated success improving student literacy outcomes on state exams

  • Experience coaching or leading adults

  • Deep knowledge of standards-based ELA instruction

  • Commitment to Movement Schools’ mission and values

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading multi-campus or network-wide initiatives

  • Background in curriculum design or literacy leadership

  • Experience in charter or choice-based school settings

Compensation & Schedule

  • Starting Salary: $80,000

  • Employment Type: Full-Time

  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package available for eligible employees

  • Schedule: Academic calendar with network-wide travel as needed

  • Must live in the Charlotte or Atlanta Metro Area

Our Commitment

Movement Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming school community. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply.
