Location: Sam Billings Center (Detox & Residential Services)
Status: Full-Time | Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Schedule: Second Shift (3pm-11:30pm)
The Client Support Specialist provides around-the-clock support to individuals receiving residential services at the Samuel Billings Center. This role is essential in ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment by delivering client-centered care, supporting daily living needs, and collaborating with clinical staff.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Client Support Specialist is responsible for providing safe, effective, and compassionate care to clients. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and provide care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and client-centered.
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, including conducting bed checks, room searches, UDS collections as needed, and monitoring client behaviors.
Search, secure, document, and properly manage client possessions and medications in accordance with State and agency guidelines.
Observe and assess client physical and mental health, consulting with nursing and clinical staff as needed.
Assist clients in identifying and overcoming barriers to recovery; provide educational and therapeutic activities as appropriate.
Administer medications per provider orders (with or without a nurse present, as appropriate) and provide CPR/First Aid when needed.
Attend shift reports and ensure effective communication across shifts regarding client care and safety.
Complete incident reports and required documentation in compliance with State, agency, and federal regulations.
Enter and maintain accurate client data in electronic health records; monitor documentation for compliance.
Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) activities as assigned.
Support clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), skill development, and ensuring basic daily needs are met.
Maintain monitoring documentation and support recovery-oriented interventions.
Oversee food inventory, including ordering, stocking, and tracking supplies to ensure availability and reduce waste.
Plan, prepare, and facilitate mealtimes according to dietary guidelines, resident needs, and organizational standards.
Coordinate dietary preferences, restrictions, and special meal requests with residents and staff.
Prepare and organize materials for group therapy sessions, including handouts, worksheets, and visual aids.
Set up physical or virtual spaces for group sessions to ensure a supportive environment.
Track, store, and maintain therapeutic materials and supplies; request additional items as needed.
Support the development of new group activities when requested.
Follow all agency policies, procedures, and professional standards, demonstrating positivity, professionalism, and appropriate verbal and body language.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Staff credentialed as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and/or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (Registrant or Intern) may also be assigned to:
Complete client admissions, including drafting service plans.
Facilitate client transitions, referrals, and discharges, including follow-up documentation.
Conduct intake screenings and ASAM assessments (if trained and qualified as a QP) to determine appropriateness for admission.
Provide peer support services that promote recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, wellness, and community living skills.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum of two (2) years of direct healthcare experience preferred
Experience in substance use disorder treatment strongly preferred
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read, interpret, and prepare professional documentation and reports
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills
Clerical and administrative knowledge, including record management
Proficiency with computers, electronic health records, and Microsoft Office applications
Certificates & Licenses:
Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) preferred
Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License required
Residential treatment setting
Moderate noise level
24/7 operational environment requiring flexibility in scheduling
