Job Summary
Our growing company is looking for a Controls Specialist to join our team!
Schedule: Night
Pay rate: $31+ per hour depending on experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform trouble shooting, calibration, and repair of production equipment as needed to always keep lines operational.
• Work closely with operations to implement control sequence logic (both time-based and event-based), fail-safe states, and process /equipment recovery sequences.
• Implement specified field devices to accomplish desired process / equipment functions, and compatible / compliant with site standards.
• Accurately estimate timeframe to complete assigned project work once scope of work is adequately defined and then complete work to agreed-to timeline.
• Work within maintenance team to support the solving of difficult automation problems, resolution of project related issues, and development of fundamental understanding of technical / process requirements critical to system success.
• Drive the deployment of defined control architectures, control system standards, and system integration that will satisfy process and manufacturing requirements.
• Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to troubleshoot production equipment and implement resolutions to existing problems
• Actively participate in project fabrication, off-line integration and testing, drawings and documentation, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer.
• Report to management on assigned project activities on a pre-determined basis.
• Can read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance.
• Dismantles/disassembles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts, using specifications and/or blueprints, precision measuring instruments, and hand tools.
• Calibrations and adjustments on various types of devices and production control systems.
• Understands facilities, mechanical/electrical systems and their component functions and relationships; and is competent in their troubleshooting and repair
• Assist other maintenance and production team members as required in support of plant goals.
Required Qualifications
• Two-year technical degree, with focus of EE, CS, Mechatronics, or similar area.
• Minimum 3 years’ equipment/controls experience
• Familiar with state-of-the-art technologies in the following areas:
Control systems integration
Controls architecture
PLC’s
Motion control systems
Electro-mechanical drive systems
Robotics
Part sensing
Vision
Safety systems
• Demonstrated ability to support the production and improvements of fully integrated machine and motion control, automation, and process machine systems and solutions.
• Experience with PID control loop tuning and techniques.
• Experience working closely with IT & process engineers to implement control sequence logic (both time-based and event-based), fail-safe states and process / equipment recovery sequences.
• Experience with graphical user interface and human machine interface.
• Must be able to program in ladder logic or equivalent.
• Experienced in the checkout and verification of electrical control panels.
• Installation, troubleshooting, repair knowledge of electrical systems including 480v and below
• Demonstrated proficiency or documented certifications for diagnosing & troubleshooting 24V controls systems and devices
• Able to interface and cooperate well with production line workers and supervisors, with a strong customer service mindset.
• Demonstrated ability to identify areas of improvement driving efficiency, profitability, or safety improvements.
• Basic math, reading, and computer skills (Microsoft Word & Excel, Outlook)
• Manufacturing safety program familiarity (PPE, LOTO, Arc Flash)
• Ability to solve problems and apply critical thinking.
• Able to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with plastic production equipment a plus.
• Experience preferred with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Safety PLCs.
• Manufacturing experience.
• Robot programming skills.
• Experience in programming of Allen Bradley ControlLogix v20 systems or higher and the ability to generate, debug and modify PLC code – ladder logic, structured text and function block diagram.
• Experience working with external machine builders and system integrators for build, and integration of later stages of system implementation.
