Skills and Competencies

  • 8–12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience delivering production-grade, enterprise web applications with a strong ownership and end-to-end delivery mindset.
  • Proven full-stack expertise with balanced backend and frontend experience, building scalable and secure solutions using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern UI frameworks.
  • Strong backend engineering skills including API design, validation, error handling, performance tuning, and microservices patterns using OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, and rate limiting.
  • Advanced frontend development experience with Angular and TypeScript, including RxJS, state management such as NgRx, component-driven design, accessibility standards (WCAG), responsive UI, and familiarity with micro-frontend architectures.
  • Deep experience with PostgreSQL including data modeling, SQL optimization, indexing strategies, transaction management, and use of persistence frameworks such as JPA and Hibernate with a focus on reliability and data integrity.
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, Git-based workflows, automated testing, containerization with Docker, and observability using logs, metrics, and traces, with a security-first mindset aligned to OWASP and SAST/DAST practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency.
  • Proven ability to design and implement AI-powered solutions that address real business challenges.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

The Senior Software Engineer will drive end-to-end full-stack development across backend services, frontend applications, data platforms, and AI-enabled services to deliver scalable, high-performance enterprise solutions.

  • Design, build, and own end-to-end full-stack features using Java and Spring Boot services, Angular and TypeScript user interfaces, and PostgreSQL persistence with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Build, evolve, and maintain REST APIs with strong governance practices including OpenAPI specifications, validation, error handling, backward compatibility, and performance optimization.
  • Implement AI-enabled capabilities by developing and integrating Python-based AI services such as retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, retrieval services, and model gateways into existing Java platforms and user interfaces.
  • Develop and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries, improve query execution plans and indexing strategies, and ensure data integrity and consistency across services.
  • Raise engineering quality through unit and integration testing, code reviews, secure coding practices, and CI/CD automation, and participate in incident response and production support when required.
  • Collaborate closely with product, architecture, and engineering peers in an Agile delivery environment, mentor junior engineers, and help drive best practices across the team.
  • Implement responsive and accessible user experiences, develop reusable UI patterns, and collaborate with UX partners to ensure consistency across features.
  • Own end-to-end feature delivery across API and UI layers, including diagnosing and resolving complex cross-stack technical issues.
  • Apply Agile practices and collaborate effectively using tools such as Jira, contributing to planning, estimation, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence through documentation, automation, and support of CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and Jenkins.
  • Leverage cloud platforms, with AWS experience valued, and follow secure and scalable deployment patterns for applications and services.
  • Work independently with strong accountability while partnering cross-functionally with backend, data, and UX teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

About the Team

The Datamesh team builds scalable data platforms and APIs that make enterprise data reliable, discoverable, and ready for advanced analytics and AI use cases across Ratings Technology. The team focuses on delivering high-performance data services, enabling AI-driven applications, and driving platform modernization through strong engineering practices, automation, and an AI-first mindset, contributing directly to Moody’s core business and technology strategy.


For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $116,500.00 - $169,000.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
