Fire Protection Engineer

We currently provide innovative healthcare initiatives across 44 states. About the Position: We are seeking a highly motivated Fire Protection Engineer to join our Raleigh team. This critical role involves the research, development, and production of comprehensive fire protection and mechanical construction drawings. As the Engineer of Record, you will apply expertise in complex industry concepts to design life-safety systems for high-stakes healthcare environments, ensuring all projects are technically sound and code-compliant. Key Responsibilities Systems Design: Lead the design of fire protection and plumbing systems, including automatic sprinkler layouts, fire pump sizing, medical gas systems, and domestic water heating. Technical Analysis: Perform critical system calculations, Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), and precise equipment selections. Documentation: Develop detailed construction documents and job-specific specifications tailored to the unique requirements of healthcare facilities. Code Compliance: Ensure all designs maintain strict adherence to NFPA standards (including NFPA 13, 20, and 99), ASHRAE, and the International Building Code (IBC). Field Engineering: Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction inspections to verify design implementation and project progress. Leadership: Serve as the Engineer of Record on complex projects and provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff. Coordination: Work seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams and clients to integrate fire protection systems into the overall building design. Required Qualifications Experience: 8+ years as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), with a mandatory background in healthcare-specific projects. Licensure: Current PE License and Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) License are both required. Registration: NCEES Registration is required. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Technical Skills: High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Trace 3D, and MS Office Suite. Logistics: U.S. Citizenship is required (Federal Contractor status); ability to travel up to 20% depending on project needs. Preferred Qualifications Certifications: Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) credential. Sustainability: LEED, Green Globes, or other sustainability-related credentials.
