Job Title: RN - Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in psychiatric nursing License: Required Licensure: RN Certifications: BLS, CPI Must-Have: - Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care - Strong interpersonal and de-escalation communication skills - Ability to work collaboratively - Solid written and oral communication skills - Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels - Experience with physical restraints and medication passes - Comfortability to run groups - Documentation skills Description: This position involves providing patient care to psychiatric patients as directed by an RN and according to the plan established by the treatment team. Developing therapeutic relationships with patients and family members is crucial for participation in treatment programs. The unit has 24 beds with a daily census of 18-20 patients, primarily adults aged 18 and older. Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation. Patient ratios are approximately 1 RN to 6 patients. Support within the department includes CNAs and Mental Health Technicians. Additional roles may include charge nursing and receptionist duties. Phlebotomy skills are required; however, there is no IV/VAT team. The department is continuously supported by hospitalists and intensivists available 24/7. Technology utilized includes an electronic medical record system and medication dispensing systems. Patients may include those who are recently postpartum, if they present with compounding psychiatric diagnoses requiring inpatient treatment. The unit is designed for open day room activities and is not a designated detox center, although some patients may be detoxing naturally. Floating may occur to pediatric behavioral health when necessary. All travelers are expected to work a majority of holidays and participate in weekend rotations every other weekend. The unit culture is patient-centered, highly dependable, and promotes strong teamwork. Scrub color is royal blue.
