Job Purpose
The Project Engineer will act as a plant authority on project implementation. A strong background in Lean, Packaging and other manufacturing principles is preferred. Also will act as an advisor to all departments and participate in cross-functional teams to support effective use of manpower and materials to achieve the lowest overall cost.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and implement projects that drive improvements in automation, capacity, productivity, cost savings, packaging, etc., while using applicable company systems and business tools.
- Make implementation and results a top priority and regularly update the plant's management team.
- Empower every employee in the plant through positive reinforcement of team oriented continuous improvement.
- Communicate the status of engineering efforts to corporate personnel, plant management and other engineering resources throughout the division in a professional manner. Provide documentation of results and benefits achieved.
- Share “best practice” methods and ideas across plants/divisions.
- Deliver to an annual productivity savings target.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering/Industrial Engineering, Packaging or relevant technical degree or 1-3 years of plant/operations experience.
- Working knowledge of six sigma tools and methodology, strong quantitative, analytical, process and packaging redesign skills, along with the excellent project management skills is preferred.
- Lean manufacturing experience with the ability to lead Packaging, SMED, Kaizen, and 5S events/projects preferred.
- Good understanding of financial measurements and goals in the Lean/Flow throughput world.
- Bottom line oriented with knowledge of financial functions.
- Must have good presentation skills to effectively communicate accomplishments and ideas.
- Must have good MS Office skills including Excel, Word, Power Point and have good skills in SAP. Must be a self-starter, motivated for change and improvement.
- Must be able to multi-task with the ability handle stressful situations.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to work overtime and weekends as well as some irregular hours. Will be exposed to some or all of the following: dust, odor, oils, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts and moderate to loud noise levels.
